This model was an experiment in the use of metallics over a large surface. Iron warriors suffer from having too many metallics in their scheme. It’s a nightmare to photograph and to shade. A well shaded true metallic surface is a joy to behold but it is one of the hardest things to get right. If done successfully you should not notice the shading as the metallics will look natural, but when not done well makes the model look untidy.I started with a base of Gun Metal from Vallejo’s range and worked in higher shades onto the raised surfaces. I then washed the model with  Tamiya Smoke. This is quite a thick coat but seeps into all the recesses of the model making the metal look grimy and worn (which was the effect I desired).

A challenging but pleasing model to paint. I have to pick one of these up again at the Warhammer World opening day.
