TACTICS: Khorne Daemonkin, Have Fun & Be Competitive

khorne daemonkin

The Bloodhost Detachment for Khorne Daemonkin can be run competitively and has powerful lists that are a ton of fun to play as well. Come see!

The Bloodhost Detachment is the faction-specific detachment for Khorne Daemonkin. While the CAD may be more popular, don’t sleep on this decurion.

The Bloodhost Detachment consists of 1+core choices, 0-1 command choices per core, and 1-8 auxillary choices per core. While it does not provide Objective Secured, it does allow your warlord to re-roll his warlord trait, and also provides your army with +1 blood point per turn. An extra blood point every turn is a very big deal for daemonkin and can really make the difference between victory and defeat. More blood points gives your whole army an immediate defensive and offensive boost and gives you more options on your blood rewards right from the very start. This alone makes the detachment very powerful and fluffy!
The base of any Bloodhost Detachment is the Slaughtercult. This formation consists of:

1 Chaos Lord, Herald, Daemon Prince, or Bloodthirster of Unfettered Fury
2-8 Units in any combination of Chaos Space Marines, Berzerkers, or Bloodletters
1-4 Units of Possessed
0-2 Units of Chaos Spawn
0-2 Units of Chaos Cultists

The formation special rules here let you sacrifice your cultists if they fail a morale check, getting you more blood points. Plus, when spending blood points, you can choose an additional reward of equal or lesser value to what you spent, as long as it is less than 5, and apply it to the whole formation. The ability to get extra blood rewards is what really makes this formation shine. You may think some of the units in this formation are not very good, but what if you apply 2 blood rewards to them at the same time? Possessed and spawn with +1 attack and Feel No Pain? Bloodletters with rage, counter-attack, and +1 attack? These bonuses can suddenly make these less than optimal units into real power houses that Khorne would approve of!

In summary, the Bloodhost Detachment will give you +1 blood point every turn, and the Slaughtercult will essentially give you 2 blood rewards for the price of one! This is a great combo that allows you to take full advantage of the Blood for the Blood god special rule and really wreak havoc on the battlefield. The larger your Slaughtercult, the more you can take advantage of this blood point bonus mechanic. Let’s look at an example of a solid Slaughtercult on which to build a KDK army:

Herald of Khorne, Exalted Locus of Wrath
8 Bloodletters
8 Bloodletters
8 Bloodletters
8 Bloodletters
5 Possessed, Rhino
5 Spawn
5 Spawn
35 Cultists, Auto-Pistols, CCW, 3 Flamers

Clocking in at just over 1100 points, this gives you 10 units that all benefit from double blood rewards and is a real Khornate horde to throw at the enemy!

Or how about this:

Bloodthirster
8 Bloodletters
8 Bloodletters
5 Possessed
5 Spawn
5 Spawn

With a thematic Points value of just under 888, this is a mobile and hard hitting Slaughtercult that is sure to get a high tally in enemy skulls!

Or you can even do something like this:

Chaos Lord on Juggernaut, Goredrinker, Sigil of Corruption
8 Khorne Berzerkers, Rhino
8 Khorne Berzerkers, Rhino
5 Possessed
5 Spawn
8 Cultists
8 Cultists

At around 1000 points, these veterans of the long war are out for revenge!

The possibilities are endless! The Slaughtercult is a very powerful formation that builds an excellent base for a KDK army using the Bloodhost Detachment. It lets you build your KDK just the way you want to and gives you great special rules to boost the power of these fanatical Khorne warriors.

Tune in next time when we take a look at some of the auxiliary choices in the Bloodhost Detachment and see what works best to pair with the Slaughtercult.
