How to Save $$$ Getting Started With Adeptus Mechanicus

Let’s take a closer look at one of the Holiday Bundles from Games Workshop. Today we’re looking at the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Hey Folks, we’re back to take a look at another one of the Holiday Battleforces. Games Workshop has put together four of each of these for their main product lines, and today we’re going to take a look at the Adeptus Mechanicus Battleforce. The Adeptus Mechanicus battleforce has the lowest model count out of any of the bundles, but let’s take a look at what’s in the box.

Before we get started, there is one thing to keep in mind for the Adeptus Mechanicus army. It’s split into two different codices. This means you have to have twice as many books to play your army, and you have units split between them. If you’re okay with that split, then you might enjoy playing the Ad. Mech. Let’s take a closer look.

Adeptus Mechanicus Eradication Cohort

Like all the Battleforces, I suspect that the Eradication Cohort is a formation of its own. Hopefully, it has a datasheet in the box so you can play this collection out of the box. At a price point of around 165-170$, this collection is a significant saving compared to individually purchasing the parts.

It contains the following kits.

  • (Cult Mechanicus) Adeptus Mechanicus Kastellan Robots
  • (Cult Mechanicus) Adeptus Mechanicus Fulgarite Electro-Priests
  • (Cult Mechanicus) Adeptus Mechanicus Kataphron Breachers
  • (Skitarii) Adeptus Mechanicus Sydonian Dragoon
  • (Skitarii ) Adeptus Mechanicus Sicarian Infiltrators

This gives a new player a wide array of the units for the Adeptus Mechanicus Faction, but it does require you to purchase both the Cult Mechanicus and Skitarii codices. The formation itself should have a variety of options for using the esoteric array of ranged weapons available to the Adeptus Mechanicus.  This is an army that runs on unusual weapon platforms and the durability of its larger constructs, like the Kastellan robots. We haven’t seen the formation inside, but we can expect that you should be able to play this as a singular formation once you’ve got it assembled.

How does this tie into the other introductory products for the Adeptus Mechanicus?  Let’s take a look.

Start Collecting! Skitarii

The Start Collecting set for Adeptus Mechanicus offers an assortment of interesting units for the faction. It comes with a formation you can use to play them right out of the box. The set contains 1 Tech Priest Dominus, 1 Squad of Skitarii Rangers, and an Onager Dunecrawler.  Between these sets, you have a wide swath of choices. These options are handy for a combined codex army using both the Cult Mechanicus and the Skitarii.

Assuming you pick up the Battleforce and the Start Collecting Set, you have a lot of options. Deciding which type of army will inform what other units you need. At the very least I suggest picking up an additional Squad of Kataphron Battle Servitors.

This lets you field the Combined Arms Detachment for the Cult Mechanicus. The Skitarii would benefit from another squad of rangers and an additional Sicarian Infiltrator Box.

I hope this helps you all figure out what you’re looking for when you start that brand new army for the new year.  Happy Gaming, Happy Holidays
