This week’s unbeatable Warhammer 40k army lists are here again, as Pariah Nexus keeps us guessing; what will bust the meta?
Unbeatable Warhammer 40k Army Lists: Sept 17, 2024
This week is another “quiet” week of tournaments; with Pariah Nexus getting more run, the new results are more important than ever. What’s winning at the highest level of Majors is important, but we have some interesting results from a slightly smaller GT as well. We will look at the German Major Bayern 2024 (106 Players) and a look at the smaller, but not small, Iron Cage: September Slaughter (56 players).

This list is a smattering of “Votann Good-Stuffs” and a hotly debated 10-man brick of Hearthguard. Votann Datasheets are always really solid stat lines, and when you add +1 to hit and wound from grudges to them, they never fail to impress with their damage output. The Hearthguard brick was an absolute staple at the start of 10th, and the return of it reminds us why taking dozens of saves on anything is gonna hurt a lot. These guys just do damage into any defensive profile; they can drown even the heartiest of targets in saves with [Sustained 2] from their Strategem.
The rest of the list is full of units that do two things: stage and threaten or score. Pioneers actually do both, with surprising damage output and durability to boot. 20 Yaegirs infiltrating. That’s gonna be fun for you combat and scout armies. They also clear out the way for Votann to alpha strike when going first, screening for their scout moves. This list is also very honest; it’s not going to pop up out of nowhere and get you. Instead, it will roll right into you and grind you into gravel, as Votann should.

We’ve been seeing Double Monolith hyperphasing its way through the meta, but usually, it’s accompanied by more big guns. This list forgoes extra firepower for some warrior shenanigans, which will have opponents pulling their hair out. Monoliths can pull warriors through their eternity gate basically all the time. In the movement phase, Monoliths pull warriors through, essentially “disembarking” for 6″ from the giant rock. For 2CP, Monoliths can pull a warrior unit that was just hit by shooting or combat to get them out of danger.
Those two things seem easy to manage, and they are, until you couple the warriors with fire and fade or either of the units with a 3″ deep strike. There will always be a play to be made and a “try it and see” for the Necron player with those tools at their disposal. This list also hits really hard. 40 Lethal hits on 5+ from the Plasmancer unit, 40 hits on 6s from Chrono, 2 Doomsday Arks, and 2 Monoliths. I see hours of advanced screening practice in my future being needed.
So, there you have it – a mix of classic Votann might and a new twist on the Silver Tide Archetype. It’s like a clash of the titans on the battlefield of Warhammer 40k. Whether you prefer drowning your opponents in saves or unleashing a legion of Necron warriors, these army lists definitely bring the heat. It’s always exciting to see how players innovate and adapt in the ever-changing meta. Innovation is clearly not dead, and the best time to try that new idea is right now. Especially with all the new Warhammer rules changes from the latest balance Dataslate.
