Knowledge Bomb- Psychic Powers: Picking Your Poison

By Master Shake | November 30th, 2012 | Categories: Master Shake, Warhammer 40k

Welcome back to the segment here on Spikey Bits, where we go over some rules clarifications and “gotchas” for sixth edition 40k!

I realize that we’re all still kinda learning all the nuances of this ruleset, so this should help all of us I hope. Plus with all the FAQ changes and recent Codex releases, it doesn’t get any

Not to mention there are plenty tournaments left to attend as well.  So let’s get to it shall we?

In this segment of Knowledge Bomb, we’ll discuss the correct way to choose psychic powers, since most people don’t seem to know the correct way.

A lot of people tend to think, “Hey, I get two psychic powers, so I’ll just roll two dice and reroll the doubles”…… wrong.

The correct way to pick psychic powers is to roll one dice at a time, and after rolling each individual dice, decide if you will exchange it for the primaris power. This is because, let’s say I roll for my 2 divination powers for Coteaz. First I select cheaty pants style and roll two dice scoring a 6 and a 6. I reroll the second 6 and get a 3. Assuming I have no reserves, the 6 is useless so I drop it to the primaris power and have some great powers set up. Now, what would happen if I rolled correctly for powers…

Assuming I rolled the same, I would first get a 6. Again, having no reserves, I exchange it for the primaris power. Then I roll for the second power and get another 6. I am now stuck with the useless power I tried to avoid in the first place. (‘Doh!’)

All this can be found on pg. 418 of the BRB.
