Star Wars X-Wing Tactica- 4 Y-wings?!!

By Super Kaiju | August 1st, 2013 | Categories: Star Wars, Super Kaiju, X-Wing 2.0

So, here we are again with Kaiju Spaceworks and another interesting list with claims of fame. Today we’ll be looking at the “Dinner Squadron”.

I learned this list from hootorama from Reddit. Four Y-wing ships shall be this lists claim to fame, consisting of just Gold Squadron Pilots, each with Ion Cannons and R2 Astromechs and just one Proton Torpedo.

Is it good? Well, I was told it did really well in a Regional, and won another. Let’s dig in now shall we?

The whole point of this list is to lock your enemy down and prevent then from ever returning fire. With the 360 arc you’ll always have a shot if you do it correct. Any list with a few ships will become your, uh, female dog. Keeping them from being able to attack you or move will always be fun times. And after a bit if they’re a bit harder to kill, they could fly right off the board. And while this is happening, you can just stand there looking your opponent dead in the eye with a huge grin on your face, every so often asking ‘You mad bro?’

Well, as we can see four Y-wings are damn hard to kill without some concentrated focus fire on them. And each with a 360 degree arcing fire, they can go just about anywhere and be good. Add in those Astromechs so all 1 and 2 maneuvers are easy, you have a hard to stress and hard to hit vehicle after a bit. Needless to say, when things start going down, this list would be hard to beat. That being said, its got a few draw backs. And these draw backs are pretty big.

First thing you’ll figure out is they’re Y-Wings. While strong, they’re so slow and hard to maneuver around tight spaces. And while they’re pretty tanky, they can’t stand up to straight focus fire. Horde lists will eat this thing alive if allowed. And the biggest draw back I can say about this list is its straight boring! Now I don’t mean that in a bad way per say but it takes a long while to kill things with this list.

As the game comes to a end I can see a bit quicker death for focused enemies, but that requires everyone else to be dead to say the least. Playing this list requires a tid bit of time on your part. In any Tourny it would definitely come down to time, every time, so be sure to hurry and don’t let your opponent slow play you.

This list is certainly interesting, with a touch of ‘troll’. Against Imperials it’ll be a tad bit harder to compete, but with Rebels, I foresee this list eating those lists alive if done right. Just again note, you’ll be a slower fighter and you can’t expect any spectacular kills. Just a whole lot of map control and angry opponents. Not my ideal list to say, as I prefer lots of fire power and all that jazz, but not a bad list either. In fact, I would put money on this list to defeat my lists if things go correctly.

Hope this helped you and thanks for reading.  -Super Kaiju
