summer of flyers

Come see the new rules that were just spotted this morning on the brand new “Summer of Flyer” Box sets that are coming out way next week!

Looks like there will be some rules in this week’s White Dwarf as Archibald_TK has the goods on the new flyers today, and I am sure there will more to follow.

Last week “pointy ears” hint was just a reference to a nicely painted Dark Eldar army presented in the WD. Next to that the Ace system in the WD is a 35pts upgrade for any flyer, with a roll on a table for 3 possible results. Similar to the first time it popped up in the old Crusade of Fire book IIRC, but there are rolls for the FMC armies, I’m not sure if that was the case before.

I go from memory here, so mistakes may be made:
– Eldars/Dark Eldars use the same table so that the glorious Craftworlders no longer have to acknowledge their lowly pale peasants cousins as a real independent army!
– SM and BA roll on different tables, yet I’m pretty sure they actually are the same. But it’s okay, they needed to fill space and it’s not like another army could have used it.
– There is a table for “other factions” so if such a thing as a SoB flyer exist you know where to roll.

Tables results I remember:
– Nids (Automatically succeed instinctive behavior or +3″ to synapse range / +1W / if within 12″ of a board edge, can go into ongoing reserves at the beginning of the enemy shooting phase before any shots are fired)
– Daemons (reroll vector strikes that failed to wound or penetrate / +1 W IIRC / +1 invulnerable save compatible with other upgrades)
– CSM (+1 BS / reroll vector strikes like daemons / units within 12″ have… relentless I think? Amusingly while I know the rules in English I sometime have no idea what a rule in my own language is…)

A lot of the tables have +1 BS as their first result. IG/MT can roll a +1 AV to their front armor for some AV13 goodness, Orks also can so that you can upgrade from paper plane to cardboard plane!

Seems like some solid upgrades are coming out way soon for all those flyers out there..

How Good of a Deal Are The New Boxe Sets?

Bigger pictures are here now of the new flyer box sets, and BoLS is reporting the following prices (and savings):

Stormcloud Attack – Faith & Heresy: $100

Stormtalon Gunship $55

Heldrake $74

Total MSRP: $129

Savings – $29

Stormcloud Attack – The Eldritch & The Beast: $100

Hemlock Wraithfighter – $65

Dakkajet – $65

Total MSRP: $130

Savings: $30

Stormcloud Attack – The Ancient & The Greater Good: $100

Doom Scythe – $45.50

Razorshark Shrike Fighter – $65

Total MSRP: $110.50

Savings: $10.50

So for the majority of these we’re talking about a 20% savings with the Necron one clocking in at about 10%. Interesting price schema here, as we saw nearly a 35% savings on the Knight Renegade box set.

Now I can see Games Workshop wanting to keep these above the $85 start collecting box prices so in theory the $100 price tag has a nice ring to it, BUT when you do the math, will that be enough to make them sell as well as the Knights for example?

What We Know About the Summer of Flyers:

Remember last week’s teaser, with that little blurb we all ignored about flyers? Well guess what, GW got us good on that one!

Wow well that escalated quickly! Looks like the summer of flyers is officially here! Question is will players continue to ignore the Death from the Skies book, or will this new supplement / rules force them out into the light of day?

– Hey Forge World, Don’t Forget Our Flyer Rules – Cheers!
