Deathwatch Hacks – Did You Overlook This OP Wargear Item?

The Deathwatch got a lot of gear in their new book, but did you notice how one of their relics really works?  Did the studio make a mistake on this one?

There may be a reason that the Beacon Angelis is the most highest costed relic in the Deathwatch book, let’s take a closer look as to why:

First off let’s look at their Locator Beacon:

Note that the beacon must be in play at the start of the turn to be used.

Next, the Teleport Homer:

Note the same restriction about being on the board at the start of the turn, and the great wording to clarify it works with the Sudden Onslaught mechanic from the Detachment.

And Finally The Beacon Angelis:

The impressive piece of wargear let’s one model guide in any unit so it does not scatter and is placed within 6″! But look closer at how it works:

  • It can be used to freely teleport any Deathwatch unit to the bearers potion as well once per game (and it does not scatter per above).
  • Any Deathwatch unit can be teleported (vehicle or otherwise), even if it was in assault at the time.
  • Unlike the homer and beacon rules above, this piece of wargear appears to not have to be on the table at the start of the turn to function.

So besides allowing you to teleport ANY unit, vehicle or otherwise, basically as a one time faux electro-displacement psychic power, it doesn’t even have to be on the board at the start of the turn! That right there can allow for some pretty interesting precision drops on your first turn, well  assuming you bring the bearer in first.

All that for 30 points, seems pretty good!

Overall I think this is a great new codex book that will probably see play in both competitive and casual games the world over! Press play to go close up on Tips and Tactics review for  DEATHWATCH!
