Bringing the ISD-I Back? Star Wars Armada Tactics

Have you seen the ISD-I in your Star Wars Armada meta game lately? Let’s take a look at this ship and why you shouldn’t overlook it.

Everyone knows and either loves or hates the ISD-II in Armada. This long ranged beast of a ship can put out 8 dice at medium range and 4 at long range. That’s a lot of damage potentially coming your way, but still at longer ranges. If you’ve been playing Armada for a while you know how fickle those red dice can be.

The ISD-I adds powerful black dice to its arsenal at the expense of losing red and blue dice. It’s side arcs are also not as potent at medium range as the ISD-II, but packs a wallop at close range. Thus the ISD-I is better suited for close range brawler type fighting as opposed to the artillery battery of the ISD-II. The ISD-I is also cheaper and not as hungry for upgrades as the ISD-II, which commonly receives Gunnery Team, XI-7 Turbolasers, and Electronic Countermeasures. The ISD-I also features 2 Offensive Retrofits, which can turn it into a super carrier for squadrons.

Enter the TIE Defender. This beast of a squadron is a multi role fighter bomber that can attack ships at speed 1-5. Add an Expanded Hangar Bay to your ISD-I and you will get your long range attacks in with your Defenders by activating them with a squadron command. That’s a potential of 5 blue bomber dice coming at an enemy ship, and that’s before you get to fire your forward batteries!

You can keep your ISD-I cheap too, since you may only consider Ordnance Experts for your Weapons Team as opposed to Gunnery Team. Not having long range potential from your forward battery will not help that much if you fire twice out of your front arc. 3 red dice at 2 ships at long range is not that great. You want to get in close with your beast of a capital ship!

Consider choosing the ISD-I for your future fleet builds. It has potential to be s carrier and brawler ship allin one, and will not be as pionts hunger as its bigger cousin, the ISD-II.
