The Carrie Fisher Tribute shown during Star Wars Celebration had fans and the panelists in tears. May the Force be with her.
The 2017 Star Wars Celebration had several memorable moments. None really come close to touching the Carrie Fisher Tribute during the 40 Years of Star Wars main panel nor Mark Hamill’s Tribute Panel. The livestream for the Carrie Fisher Tribute event was distorted, yet was saved with some brilliant editing, featured George Lucas and John Williams paying their respects.
Actress Billie Lourd, Fisher’s daughter, payed her respects as well. During Mark Hamill’s Panel, he covered her life and how she influenced him and those around her. From comical incidents to touching heartfelt memories, Hamill covers it all. Both panels are available on the Disneyland Experience Youtube.
Carrie Fisher was brash, fearless, and had an energetic sense of humor that showed in character and out. Never the one to back down from any challenge, she tackled it the same resolve that gave Princess and later General Leia Organa Solo her resilient personality and fiery temperament. She continued to surprise people by being able to remember all her lines from the old films and could recite them at will.
Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, commented that “My mom didn’t know where Princess Leia ended and Carrie Fisher began.” Perhaps that is a good thing. I find that quote most telling because Leia’s character could have been easily pushed aside and lacking if Fisher wasn’t being herself while in the role. Many actresses credit Carrie Fisher as being a strong role model for them when growing up. She will continue to be a role model and hopefully the new Star Wars films give us new role models for the new generation.
