30k Horus Heresy Store Listings Updated by GW

horus heresy wallpaperSilently Games Workshop fixed their store listings that said the Horus Heresy rules were not compatible with 40k, and a new HH rules set was coming.

We reported on May 3rd that the listings on Games Workshop’s digital site were indicating that the books there “won’t be compatible with the updated version of Warhammer 40,000 or the upcoming Horus Heresy rules” which seemed to go against what Andy & Pete indicated in their big Q&A session a few weeks ago.

However when we went back to the Warhammer community post they actually indicated that the rules  WOULD change for Horus Heresy, eventually. The direct quote was: “…some time before the rules would change for The Horus Heresy“.

Fast forward to today, and now the descriptions for both the digital versions of the book, as well as the physical ones on Forge World’s site match each other, as you can see below in these images from the Warhammer Digital Store:

But let’s take a look at some of the book descriptions between Black Library and Forge World that sent up waves of panic in the hobby community.

Warhammer 40,000 is being updated soon and we’ll be releasing updated rules for playing games set during The Horus Heresy shortly after. Though the rules in this title won’t be compatible with the updated version of Warhammer 40,000 or the upcoming Horus Heresy rules, all of the great hobby content and background narrative will be as valid as ever.

Of course, until the new Horus Heresy rules are released, you can continue to use the existing Warhammer 40,000 rules for games set in the Horus Heresy.

And this is what the description is for the same book, but over on Forge World:

The Horus Heresy Mechanicum: Taghmata Army List brings together the Mechanicum units and rules from The Horus Heresy Books One to Five in a 120 page, hard back book. Additionally, this book includes updated Age of Darkness expansion rules for playing games of Warhammer 40,000 during the Horus Heresy, and all of the weapons profiles and special rules you’ll need for your Mechnicum army.

The Horus Heresy Mechanicum: Taghmata Army List is an expansion to Warhammer 40,000. You will need a copy of the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook in order to use this book.

**A few of you might be wondering how the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 affects Forge World’s Horus Heresy rules and army lists. Well, for the moment, it won’t! You can carry on using the existing Warhammer 40,000 ruleset for your Horus Heresy games.

Do the now corrected entries below tell a different story about the fate of this premium book series that many have collected for years?

Either way we can see where some of the dedicated Horus Heresy hobbyists out there are starting to squirm, especially after reading all the comments on social media recently.

Let’s be honest here, some people have spent well over $1,000 on the black books plus the two editions of red books that have been printed thus far, and now their is some indication that these books may not be usable anymore just like the 7th Edition codex books?

For those of you out there that might be thinking “just play the version of 30k you want, adjust with the change”, it’s really not that simple. There are still Legions that have not even been fully released yet rules wise and will not therefore may not even be playable with older versions.

What is everyone else’s thoughts on this? We really want to hear what the community has to say about all this. Speak up, now’s your time!
