New ships mean new tactics! Let’s take a look at a relatively new squadron and its utilization within the Star Wars Armada tabletop game!
The Lambda shuttle may not look like much in the attack department, but it more than makes up for that with its support upgrades. The Strategic ability is useful for Objective Token manipulation and a play style more suited to winning through objectives rather than raw damage and tabling your opponent. Relay is also another amazing ability that can help you spread you squadron coverage across the battlefield.
Relay was made more powerful by its clarification in the latest FAQ. Whenever a ship activates squadrons, it can activate 2 ships that are within range 1-3 of the Lambda shuttle. That Lambda shuttle need not be in close-medium range of said friendly ship to activate that squadrons. This effectively makes Relay table-wide in its coverage!
One particular ship that is suited for squadron activation is the Gozanti. Flotillas are fantastic utility ships, but their frailty has some fleet admirals concerned. Gozantis are thus usually assigned to “lifeboat” duty in which the fleet admiral is attached to a Gozanti, and slowly sails away from the battle, effectively wasting an activation. With a Lambda shuttle and Relay, the Gozanti can become useful again! Gozantis have a natural squadron value of 2, so to keep it cheap, let’s forego Expanded Hangar Bays. With this setup, the Gozanti can still hang in the backfield, activate 2 squadrons with relay, and become a force multiplier once again.
Decimators are powerful squadrons that could be used as Gozanti squadrons activated by Relay. Thier powerful attack dice are effective against other squadrons as well as enemy ships. Another powerful squadron to use with Gozantis is the TIE Defender.
TIE Defenders are all around effective squadrons. Their very mean anti squad dice of 2 blue and 2 black will make short work of any enemy squadrons that dare engage them. Once they have zapped all enemy fighters, their bomber ability can start eating into enemy ship hulls like no other. Great combo!
Try this new tactic with your Gozanti “lifeboats” and you may just be surprised with its effectiveness!
