Return of the TIE Punisher: SW X-Wing Tactics

By Barclay Montgomery | May 25th, 2017 | Categories: Star Wars Tactics, X-Wing 2.0

Just when you thought it was gone, it’s back! Come see this TIE Punisher build that will have enemy swarms running for their lives!

Redline is more commonly seen as the TIE Punisher ace around these parts. Being able to maintain 2 target locks on the same target makes for some amazing action economy with being able to spend 1 for munitions firing, and then keeping the other for dice modification. His ability makes him perfectly suited for munitions type warfare, and thus must be loaded for max capacity! The perfect upgrade to keep Redline punching hard is Extra Munitions.

Extra Munitions is a must have for any ship with serious payloads, as this gives you a deep discount for your other munitions that you will load up on TIE Punishers. Redline is strongest when firing missiles and torpedoes, and having extras is always a good thing. TO take out enemy swarms we need some serious firepower!

Assault Missiles is a great upgrade for what we have going, since 5 points is a steep investment for a munition. Extra Munitions helps keep costs low by adding a second Assault Missile for “free”. This missile requires you to spend a target lock, so Redline is well suited for this. After it goes off, each ship at range 1 also takes damage. This is a great way to splash around some damage to enemy swarms that stick too close together! For enemy ace hunting, we should go with Flechette Torpedoes.

This torpedo upgrades requires a target lock to spend, but Redline has them ready togo! After you perform an attack with Flechette Torpedoes, regardless if it hits or not, the enemy target will receive 1 stress token if it’s hull value is 4 or lower. Enemy aces will usually be light on hull, and they would prefer not to take extra stress if they can help it, so this upgrade is sure to mess up their carefully laid out battle plans. After being stressed they should be easy prey for  the TIE Punisher!

Is the TIE Punisher one of your favorites or is it in drydock at your fleet headquarters? Try this ship out and learn some new tactics!
