New 8th Rules For Necrons & Eldari: Index Xenos I Review

Index Xenos 1 POST

With 8th Edition getting ever closer, we take our first look at the first of five indexes being released on June 17th for the new 40k: Xenos 1.

The Index: Xenos 1 book is 128 pages worth of information, rules, and datasheets for the Eldar, Dark Eldar, Ynnari, Harelquins, and Necrons. Why were the undead, death robots included in this index? Who knows. But, for now, we have our hands on this Index and we dove right in. Here is a sample of our full review.

Now, the five indexes are merely transitional as they are intended to hold us over unit Codexes are released. GW has left things spread out a bit so that they can be changed easily if necessary. Each section will have a small fluff portion and the Appendix is quite useful for quick reference.

The Ynnari section is small with just the “big three” unit datasheets. The special stuff that we saw in the Gathering Storm are not in this Index. There is, however, a way to take units from the Craftworld section and assign them to Ynnari.

Now, you are probably wondering by having seen point value lists if you have to add points to the wargear sheets. Yes, in fact, you do. Unless said unit is a special character then the point value lists will include a specific sub-header that says “Includes Wargear”. For example, Jain Zar has a point value of 146, including wargear. A Wraithknight is 402 points, plus whatever ranged and melee weapons you can equip on it.

The datasheet for each unit will include the list of weapons it can equip and a “Wargear Options” section for options as to what can be switched out.

Will Eldar still be the kings of the 40k Jungle in 8th, or will the Tau keep on pounding? Checkout our video feature below for more clues to playing the Xenos factions in 8th Edition 40k.
