Land Raider Ares Updated to 8th Edition: PDF

Ares Land RaiderThe fan favorite Land Raider Ares from the late 2000’s is back for 8th Edition 40k. The creator of the Ares has made an updated datasheet for this tank!

Nathan Bishop wrote rules for the Ares Land Raider he created while he was working for Games Workshop, but they were never made “official”.
“Bish” worked for GW’s studio web team from 2006-2008, and was asked by GW to create rules for Warhammer 40K Apocalypse after creating the Ares for an article he wrote.
Many people used the old rules and kit-bashed their own models of the Ares, but with the release of 8th it was time for an update, and who better to update the datasheet than the original man himself.
Let’s take a look at the new datasheet and what he had to say about it:

One of the things I couldn’t do on the original, was give it very many options. So I’ve added some weapons options. It was made before the Redeemer came out and I probably would have used flamestorm cannons had they been around then, but since it started with twin heavy flamer sponson, that is still the default. I also added twin heavy plasma cannons as an option to replace the twin assault cannons because I’ve always like the idea of it and a hurricane bolter option as a fun alternative for the side sponsons as well. Dozer blades no longer have rules in 8th, but if they reappear later on in the actual codexes or in Forge World’s datasheets, I can add that in later. This has been updated with Dozer Ram rules as found in the Imperial Armour – Index – Forces of the Adeptus Astartes book.on the Sororitas Repressor.

I’m not above making changes, so play with it and let me know how it goes. All of my stuff is currently in storage until my family and I can move to a bigger place so I won’t get the opportunity for a little while. I will keep the PDF’s at the links above and update them if any changes are made and note it in this post.

The updated rules would be great for your next Narrative match, and possibly a great addition to your army if your opponent or tournament organizer is fine with you using it. Special thanks to Nathan Bishop for updating the datasheet for this great unit.

After all, who doesn’t want to play a land raider with a dozer and Demolisher on the front?

What do you think about the updated rules? Is this something you would use in one of your upcoming 8th edition games? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
