More Is Less: Airbrushing Large Minis Tutorial

Big Models Airbrushing NLP

More is less when it comes painting sometimes. Checkout just how easy it is to large models like this Nemo bust quickly and easily using an airbrush!

Welcome back Hobby Maniacs! Today Kenny is back with another awesome tutorial on how to paint large models with your airbrush! Today Kenny is painting the awesome Nemo Adept General bust from Privateer Press and he’s going to use this opportunity to teach us all about how to paint large models like this quickly and easily using an airbrush!

Once the model has been base coated with a light grey primer, Kenny begins by building up the skin tones using some of P3’s awesome new skin tone paints!  Hitting the highlights on the flesh from above first, Kenny then fills in the rest of the flesh from other angles resulting in a nice smooth base layer for the flesh.

Skin

Up next is a cold Grey base color painted on with a large brush to the hair, eyebrows and mustache.  This is an extremely thin mixture applied a number of times to carefully glaze over Nemo’s hair. Once this is dry its time to lighten it up with a slightly lighter glaze touched up with some hits from the airbrush and finished off with a faint white glaze!

Hair

The last step of today’s tutorial is building up contrast in the model using Nemo’s goggles.  Using some cool blue tones Kenny builds up the lens effect in the glass before cutting around it with a dark metallic color.  Tune in next week for more progress!
