8th $300 Challenge: Ad Mechs vs. Astra Militarum

Adeptus Mechanicus and Astra Militarum go head to head on the battlefield in this $300 Challenge 8th Edition Battle Report.

Juice and Talon meet in a $300 battle, pitting Adeptus Mechanicus and Astra Militarum against each other in fierce battle. Using the Only War battle scenario with the Domination objective (at the end of each turn, each objective is worth one Victory Point to player who controls it), and deployment Dawn of War. Talon seizes the initiative to go first.

Adeptus Mechanicus consists of Belisarius Cawl ($55 – $80), a Skitarii Vanguard unit ($40), Kataphrons ($54), and a Knight Titan ($145). Belisarius Cawl’s chosen Canticle allows him to reroll hit rolls of one.

Astra Militarum consists of two Cadian Armored Fist box sets that contain a Chimera and ten infantry each ($55 per box), a Company Command Squad ($25), Sergeant Harker ($15), two Sentinels with plasma cannons ($30 each), and two Basilisks ($50 each).

Turn 1 for Talon starts with him aiming to have a progressive domination of objectives. The shooting phase saw Talon scoring 1 damage on the Knight Titan and took out one Kataphron. He does not advance or charge, choosing to remain on the objectives entirely.

Turn 1 for Juice starts with spending a command point to allow the Knight to benefit from the Canticles for a full turn. Shooting phase, Juice shows off his epic rolling skills by lashing out at one transport Chimera and removing it from the game. Talon ends up losing two infantry from the Chimera dying as well. Cawl attempts to charge a Chimera but fails the charge roll, taking one damage in over watch.

Turn 2 will lead to more aggressive tactics from the Astra Militarum. Will Talon be able to maintain objective control and pressure Juice back? Will Juice be able to destroy the other vehicles before they take out the Knight? Who will turn out with more victory points? Find out by pressing play on the video below!
