Today we’re going to be taking a look at an updated FAQ that is giving some units the Helbrute keyword. But will it give them access to a double fire Stratagem?
Have we been playing Fire Frenzy, a Stratagem for Helbrutes, wrong the whole time? Let’s take a closer look at the Stratagem that gives you double fire, and then the FAQ in question.
So, you can use the Fire Frenzy Stratagem in you Shooting Phase, just before a Helbrute shoots, and it will cost you 1 CP. If it didn’t move that turn in its Movement phase it can fire all of its weapons twice, but all of its attacks must be against the nearest visible enemy unit.
This seems pretty straightforward until you look at the FAQ for the FW Imperial Armour Index: Forces of Chaos.
The Hellforged Contemptor Dreadnought, Hellforge Deredeo Dreadnought, and Hellforged Leviathan Dreadnought are all getting the Helbrute keyword added to their datasheets. But does this mean they get access to the Fire Frenzy Stratagem? The grey area comes in when you look at the wording of the Stratagem itself.
“Use this Stratagem in your Shooting phase, just before a Helbrute shoots.”
According to the FAQ, three units now have the Helbrute keyword, but Fire Frenzy doesn’t state keyword, it clearly says a Helbrute. Just before a Helbrute shoots and just before a unit with the Helbrute keyword shoots is two totally different things.
The Helbrute by itself is not really the best unit in the game and desperately needs the Fire Frenzy Stratagem to make it somewhat worth the points it costs to field it. But, with the addition of the Helbrute keyword to the Hellforged Contemptor Dreadnought, Hellforge Deredeo Dreadnought, and Hellforged Leviathan Dreadnought one big question arises: Do they get access to the Fire Frenzy Stratagem as well? The Stratagem says a Helbrute… Not “a Helbrute unit”, not “a unit with the Helbrute keyword”, just a Helbrute. So who gets to use this Stratagem?
To double fire, or not to double fire, that is the question.
This is definitely one of the Stratagems we would like to see an FAQ on to clear everything up. Being able to fire twice with a Hellforged Contemptor Dreadnought, Hellforge Deredeo Dreadnought, or Hellforged Leviathan Dreadnought is amazing for 1 CP, but there’s no clear answer as to who gets to use the Fire Frenzy Stratagem.
