GW Previews Daughters of Khaine Khinerai Rules

The new Daughters of Khaine battletome is on its way, and this week Games Workshop is giving us previews of what we’ll be seeing inside the covers. Let’s take a look at what they had to say about the Khinerai and some of their new rules.

As a result of the taint of Slaanesh, many aelven souls are permanently marred or twisted and, in physical form, mirror the vile Daemons of the Great Enemy. Yesterday, we took a closer look at the Melusai – the elite guard of the Daughters of Khaine, but they are far from the only mutants to serve the cult of Khaine. The Khinerai are winged aelves, descending from the skies to enact the wrath of the Shadow Queen, wherever her enemies hide…

Heartrenders are the second ranged unit to be added to the Daughters of Khaine, but while the Blood Sisters are patient, long distance combatants, the Khinerai Heartrenders excel at hit-and-run attacks. Firstly, thanks to their wings, the Khinerai aren’t just fast, but versatile – you’ll be able to set your unit up in reserve before bringing it onto the battlefield wherever you please in your movement phase.

Khaine Descend

Descend to Battle is going to let you set a unit with this ability up in reserve, or “circling high above”, and in any of your movement phases that unit can descend into battle. You’ll set the unit up anywhere on the battlefield that is more than 9″ from any enemy models, and that will be considered their movement for that movement phase.

Combine that with Death From Above and it makes for a hard-hitting unit.

Khaine Death From Above

Death From Above states that a unit with this ability can shoot even if it ran in the same turn. If that unit was set up on the battlefield in the same turn you’ll change that unit’s Barbed Javelins Rend characteristic to -2 in the shooting phase. Fly around, drop down at the right time, and fire away!

Khaine Fireand Flight

Fire and Flight is going to be a great way to keep your ranged shooters at a safe distance from enemy models. After a unit with this ability has finished making all of its attacks in the shooting phase you’ll roll a dice, and on a 4+ it can make a 6″ normal move as if it were your movement phase. However, it cannot run or retreat as part of this move.

Khaine Death Wind

If a unit with the Death on the Wind ability made a charge move they will get a +1 to the Damage characteristic of their Barbed Sickles for that same turn.

All in all this preview is making the Daughters of Khaine look extremely intimidating on the tabletop. The Khinerai look to have some really nice rules and a force to be reckoned with on the tabletop.
