weathering bases startTo start, Brown Rust by Secret Weapon Miniatures, a great weathering paint, is dry brushed over the base, getting on all dirt but not being concerned if any gets on the diamond plating. Light Dust by Secret Weapon is added to the Brown Rust and lightly dry brushed in areas where highlights would hit on the base. Slowly this mix will be worked up to pure Light Dust to create contrast. When dry brushing, it is key to remember to drybrush in the same direction. Menoth White Highlight by P3 is lightly applied in selective areas to pop the highlight out.

With Scale 75 Necro Gold, the gears are painted in, with other parts dry brushed using the same color to bring out a gold-bronze look. Sombre Grey by Game Color Vallejo is applied over the grey slab to mimic concrete. This particular step blocks in the base colors to all the details on the base itself, with lots more work to go.

Be unique in brush strokes so it will dry in different, unique patterns. While that dries, Dwarven Gold by Scale 75 is drybrushed on all the gears and gold colors, popping a highlight.

Soft Body Black by Secret Weapon Miniature, a wash, is thinned down and laid into the dirt around the accessories, giving each item a natural shadow. Secret Weapon Concrete wash is added to the greys, with some Soft Bodied Black added over to the top for a unique appearance. Once the wash is dry, Ryza Rust is traced across the edges of metal pieces to give greater contrast to the rest of the base.

Secret Weapon Miniatures Green Wash is lightly added over the golds and metals to give a patina appearance. Ryza Rust is precisely and aggressively to areas where lots of rust would appear, on the metals. Any other final details can be added at this point, to bring out more weathered appearances if desired.
