Don’t miss this amazing sportsmanship exhibition Warhammer 40k game that will be hosted live on Twitch today at the 2019 LVO.

This isn’t just any exhibition game. It’s backed by an incredible story.

During the Las Vegas Open of 2018, a player named Alex Fennel bore the brunt of some unsportsmanlike conduct while being filmed on live Stream. The game that he was playing wasn’t just any game either. This was a semi-final game toward crowning the ITC champion as well as other cash prizes in store as a reward for the victor. Ultimately, he had no way to win his game, but kept a cool head and remained completely sportsmanlike.

Without anyone knowing, Marc “Tryndamere” Merrill of Riot Games (Creators of League of Legends), was watching the game and saw everything unfold. He was moved by Alex Fennel’s sportsmanship and decided to donate $5,000 to the player. When Fennel found out what had happened, he immediately donated all of the money to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Alex Fennel’s employer and Games Workshop were both moved as well and matched the $5,000 donation. A whopping total of $15,000 was donated to the hospital completely out of the blue!

Keeping the Spirit of Sportsmanship Alive

In the spirit of celebrating sportsmanlike conduct even in the fiercest of competitions, Alex, Marc and the ITC have teamed up to create the annual Alex Fennell ITC Sportsmanship Award, sponsored by Marc “Trydamere” Merrill which will be awarded to exceptional members of the competitive 40k community each year to donate to a charity of their choice. To kick off this wonderful new tradition, Marc and Alex have agreed to play in an exhibition game live on stream at the LVO 2019. This game will be broadcast on Frontline Gaming’s Twitch channel. The game begins at 3:00pm PST!

Join Alex Fennel and Marc Merill for a game of 40k to promote sportsmanship across all gaming tables.
