Custodes are next in line for Apocalypse reviews! Check out these golden boys and see how they match up to everything else that’s been covered so far.

Warhammer Community revealed a handful of rules and stats for the Adeptus Custodes in 40k’s Apocalypse. With this elite army, let’s jump into some of their tricks on the tabletop.

Apocalypse 40k: Adeptus Custodes Faction Focus

Adeptus Custodes Wal Hor

Each Custode is an unreal weapon bred only for war and protecting the Emperor. These guys are trained from day one to fight with undying loyalty and ferocity. On the table, this manifests with the Emperor’s Chosen rule which lets Custodes units always fight at full strength until they’re completely wiped out. Things are considered critically damaged if they suffer half the total wounds/casualties in the unit, which makes them fight worse. Custodes just don’t care.

A Vexilus Praetor is a Solid Option

These guys are going to b a force multiplier that you might want to bring a handful of in your Apocalypse games. They help everyone around them fight better getting an extra attack in shooting AND combat. Plus, he’s still a Custode that can hold his own at the end of the day.

Gaining an Attack is a significant advantage – especially considering the Attacks characteristic is also used for ranged attacks – and the Adeptus Custodes are well equipped to deliver punishment in melee or at a distance. Keep him within 6” of as many of your units as possible at all times and you’re golden.

Lik 8th edition, these guys are another great option. They get a 16″ movement and have FLY which lets them leap over annoying units that you don’t want to deal with. And while attack dice might be drastically reduced in Apocalypse, they can still pump out some bolter fire (relatively speaking). Plus, if you want to bring a quick unit that’s cheaper and great against armor, you can load these guys with Salvo Launchers and wound enemy tanks on a 4+.

Trajann Valoris Has Multiple Uses

Trajann is the head honcho Custode right now and he’s coming with some serious value in his profile. He’s a force multiplier with his Legendary Commander rule and can even generate extra assets if he’s your Warlord.

Speaking of Command Assets…

Adeptus Custodes Assets

sister of silence

If you want your Custodes to run with some Sisters of Silence, you can bring the Psychic Abominations asset. This essentially guarantees a hard counter to any enemy psychic power. Magnus might be able to search through the deck for a Psychic Asset, but if you’ve got this in your hand, you can effectively smack it right out of the sky on a 2+.

This Asset only works on a character, but you can turn them into a MONSTER for a single round of combat. Getting +2 to their attacks and adding +3 to wound means that you’ll be able to dish out some blast markers like nobody’s business…The only sad part is that you can’t use this Asset on an entire unit of Custodes.

This Asset helps your army to be more reactive to the enemy.  With a low model count, comparatively speaking, you’ll need to be able to have key units in place and make the most of what you’ve got. This really gives the army a bit more reach. Definitely a good choice.

All in all, the Custodes main downfall might be their lack of numbers. But their rules are looking solid so far. The question is, how will you be bringing them in your Apocalypse games? How much Power Level is your Custodes collection? Let us know in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
