Three New 40k Army Lists Taking The New Year By Storm

space marine wal hor tourneyDon’t miss three top 40k army lists that took last weekend’s New Year tournaments by storm.  A new faction rises competitively as marines keep on pounding away at the meta…

The Defcon 40k tournament happened over the weekend in Sweden and used ITC scoring for the format. Once all the games were over and the smoke cleared, it turned out that three pretty interesting lists made it to the top.

Let’s break down what each player brought!

Daniel “Papa D” Hesselberg

One again the McPick two chapters was in full effect with arguably the two best ones next to the extra range rule.  Holding down the line was THREE Vindicator tanks and a gunline of six Razorbacks. Speeders and Stormtalons were the early distraction Carnifex models, and the captain on bike gave out a big re-roll bubble to everything he could.

This is a very interesting list that probably surprised most players, and would get even stronger when flavored with Iron Hands chapter tactics as well. It won 4 out of 5 games and was in the top three at Defcon.

Richard Nilsson- Adeptus Mechanicus

The new wonder twins of 40k work well together to provide some serious bonuses for the Ad Mech. Nicknamed the “shhhh-er” Manipulus fist-bumped Daedalosus (from the last Blackstone Expansion) into buffing up the rest of the army. Daedalosus can give one unit a +1 to hit, and Manipulus can add range to weapons or +1 to advance and charges. All those breachers and Dragoons love to be near him for sure!

Richard Nilesson defcon tournament

A pocket psyker like Cotaez hits above his points in certain scenarios, but he can always make one stratagem cost +1 to play.  That could cause some serious mid to late games issues, and don’t sleep on the Dominate-Terrify psychic combo as well.

Three Skorpius bring the longer-range pain, and the Dragoons are always a threat wherever they are.  This is another great list that only lost one game.

Par Hylander- Adeptus Astartes

Par brought a list that has another great choice of the McPick two chapter traits. This time we’re seeing the more conservative marksman, stealthy combo that plays well not only with the spearhead detachment, but also the rest of the infantry lying in wait.

The Drop Pod Grav combo that has been popular since the new Marine codex debut made an appearance along with three budget-priced MSU centurion squads. This was the only undefeated list at the event- congrats Par!

What are your thoughts on all these lists? Is Ad-Mech the new army to watch out for? Which SM chapter tactic combo is the best?
