New Changes For The Seraphon SPOTTED!

seraphon lizardmenThe Seraphon are one of the next factions to be getting their rules overhaul with a new Battletome. Here are some notable changes that have been spotted!

Seraphon are going to be the next faction to get a rules update from GW. And while they’ve been one of the oldest factions, dating back to Fantasy, they’ve consistently been a solid army to play. However, this time around, we’re noticing a few tweaks here and there to the Seraphon both lore-wise and rule-wise. Take a look with us.

New Changes For The Seraphon SPOTTED!

aos wal seraphon Age of Sigmar Summoner's War: Seraphon TacticsOne of the first changes we’ve seen come to the Seraphon is a development on the lore-side of things. And while we’ve just seen the tip of the iceberg for the updated Seraphon lore, we can see how this would easily transition into a new subfaction with different rules in-game.

To fill you in, Seraphon are an ancient race bred for one thing. Kicking the warp $^#%@ out of Chaos. And on the tabletop, they do that pretty well. However, back in the End Times of Fantasy, they had to peace-out when the Skaven blew up the moon. The Slann, their higher leaders which are INSANELY powerful at magic, beamed them up into space and they began to basically “wait it out”. Through a mix of issues, they had to suspend their warriors in existence. Yeah, real magical stuff going on here. That was until they found a new home in the Azyr where they started pumping out these new Ethereal warriors from the heavens. –boom, we have our classic Seraphon faction covered.

There’s a Been a Division

coalesced seraphonWould you believe that through the End Times of Fantasy, some Seraphon managed to survive? Well, they’re called the Coalesced, and while they still fight for the ORDER they’ve reverted to a more primal lifestyle. Coming from Warhammer Community: 

Not all the Seraphon temple-fleets have stayed in Azyr. Many have descended to form permanent settlements in the Mortal Realms, using vast Realmshaper Engines to transform them into choking, inhospitable jungles redolent of their long-lost home.

As the celestial energies of Azyr mix with the ambient magics of the Mortal Realms, these Seraphon begin to gain true permanence, becoming savage creatures, matching the Starborne’s strange abilities with sheer primeval fury. These Seraphon are known as the Coalesced.

Just from the sounds of it, these guys would be right at home in something like Ghur. Primal, raw power in a near-inhospitable land.

We’ve already seen some rules showing a split between Starborne and Coalesced Seraphon. So who knows if GW will expand it further, writing books on the conflict between the constellations.

Warscroll Card Keyword Changes & More Spotted

Seraphon datacardsThe pic from above is way too blurry. However, Carnikang on Dakka Dakka noted some big changes just on the warscroll card we could see.

Also, Warscroll shows that Seraphon have lost the Celestial and Daemon keywords. Big changes.

No Sheild ability on the Old Blood Warscroll, new Cold Ferocity ability, Wrath of the Seraphon replacing Paragon of Order as the Command ability, Bravery 8 now, improved save, more attacks, but weapon stats seem very similar.

Tokens mention some techy feel wording.

Terrain fluff/rule hint confirms that Seraphon are terraforming the realms to be more Jungly.

Seraphon TerrainThe top of the pyramid is dominated by a floating orb of power, surrounded by crackling arcs of energy holding aloft a ring of carved stone. Each side of this piece is reversible, so you can choose to build it as a fresh, clean ziggurat, or one that has begun the process of manifesting the jungle that will eventually surround and reclaim it

Perhaps now that the Seraphon have stuck around in the realms longer… and with the mention of a “growing permanence” above, the Seraphon are getting stronger across the board. That could easily translate into a better save, more attacks, and more bravery. Plus, they’re technically not a Celestial Daemon anymore! All of this boils down to what looks like Seraphon being physical Lizardmen once again.

seraphon scaly skinWith these two new rules previewed for the Coalesced specifically, it looks like they’re getting more chunky and able to dig their heels into the dirt to fight off Chaos- all in a more physical form.
