Top Homebrew 40k Army List: Chaos Storm GT

40k-homebrew-army-listsAnother off-meta Warhammer 9th Edition 40k army list emerged in the Chaos Storm Grand Tournament, check this one out!

9th Edition’s meta is still settling, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. They didn’t do too bad and just goes to show that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Chaos Storm Grand Tournament: Joseph Wright – Iron Hands

chaos storm iron hands 1Joseph decided to go for a battalion of Iron Hands. These were super strong when they received their update last edition, but haven’t seen too many good results in 9th yet. While this list didn’t get top 3, he did go 4-1 at a large tournament which is at least a little bit of hope for the chapter’s future.

The Battalion is led by a Librarian, a Librarian in Phobos Armour, and a Primaris Techmarine. This combination of characters gives the list of a ton of psychic support and a way to heal the vehicles of the list, which as we will find out is a huge focus.

As for Troops, there is a base squad of Incursors, Infiltrators, and a Tactical squad. These are all pretty straightforward and ultimately just add some extra bodies for grabbing and holding objectives with slightly different unique abilities.

chaos storm iron hands 2Now the meat of the list is in the Elites, coming in at just over 1,000 points, it makeups over half of the points in the list! This section includes a Leviathan Dread, 3 Redemptor Dreads, and a Relic Contemptor Dread. The Leviathan is running  Volkite with storm cannons for a mix of high strength and volume of shots, making for a decent all-around ranged weapons machine.

The 3 Redemptor are identical and running Storm Bolters, Plasma Incinerators, and a Gatling cannon.  This loadout has a similar focus on both volume of shots and is a great weapon for attacking vehicles. The last dread, a Relic Contemptor, has 2 Twin Lascannons and a Cyclone Missle Launcher. These once again give it fantastic anti-armor, but also an ok option for hitting troops as well.

The final model in the list is a Land Raider Achilles. This serves as a great way to protect some of the very few foot-slogging troops/characters for the first few turns. The extra 2 Twin Multi-melta also give a few extra shots at key targets if needed.

Overall this list offers a unique approach, but we like it because of their all-in on an aspect of their faction in a response to the meta.

Even better they got decent results from the player who piloted it! It’s also very encouraging when a player is able to play a previously widely considered “underpowered” army or list style so effectively.

What do you think about this homebrew 40k army list from last weekend that caught our eye?
