Space Marines Back On Top at Into the Hellstorm Tourney

Top-3-army-lists-40k-wal-hor-2Space Marines were back on top as three great Warhammer 40k army lists dominated the recent Into the Hellstorm – The Bolter tournament!

The Into the Hellstorm – The Bolter tournament is over and now we’re able to look at which lists managed to secure a decent placing with each of our favorites going at least 4-2 in the event! Check out what the generals brought in their armies.

This event was large, meaning there was a large concentration of meta lists and armies. This week we decided to grab our 3 favorite lists instead because the actual top was mostly Ad Mech and Dark Eldar lists we’ve seen plenty of times before.

But one of the best players out there, Alex Harrison, managed to win the event with Space Marines of all things. Let’s dive in!

Alex went for a large patrol and a vanguard of Iron Hands. These were super strong when they received their update last edition, but haven’t seen too many good results in 9th yet. This list not only got top 3, but he also finished first at a large tournament which gives a lot of hope for the chapter’s future.

The only HQ for the patrol are Lieutenants who provide wound re-rolls and are always welcomed. jumping straight into Elites, two Veterans with Shield and Chainsword provide two durable models that can pump out a few kills each combat for very little investment.

Heavy Supports bring two Multi-melta Devastator squads both with a single Grav-cannon to boot. These provide decent anti-armor shots that can double for some bonus chaff clearing making for multi-purpose ranged damage dealers.

Finishing the detachment is a Drop pod and Landspeeder, giving the list a few more shots and extra mobility. The drop pod is especially nice being able to deploy a unit mid-board whenever they are needed mid-game.

The Vanguard Detachment is led by a single Primaris Librarian. This provides two great psychic spells and gives extra counterplay being able to deny a key enemy psychic power once a turn. The meat of this detachment is of course in the Elite section. Starting off with a solid Melee threat in 5 Bladeguard Vets, which are hard to kill and deal great damage in melee.

There are also 2 Invictor Tactical Warsuits running Ironhail Autocannons, which are fantastic at clearing out single-wound chaff squads. Finishing Elites there are 2 Relic Contemptor Dreads, both running Cyclone and Volkite Culverins, which have seen a boost in popularity lately. This seems to be thanks to their great ability at killing 2 wound models. The shots have no AP, but thanks to 16 shots per dread, they can get quite a few kills when saves are failed.

Fast Attacks bring 6 Suppressors, which have long-range weapons that can easily whittle down any target needing a little bit extra ‘oomph. Finally, there is a Sicaran Arcus. This unique vehicle just provides some cheap extra shots that can really target anything needing to be finished off.

Grats to Alex for the sweet list and placing 1st!

Space Marines looked awesome this time, but what do you think about all three of these most recent lists?
