Marshall Helbrecht, Castellan & Sword Brethren: 40k Unboxing

By Travis Pasch | December 6th, 2021 | Categories: Warhammer 40k Articles & News

Don’t miss our unboxing of the Black Templars Helbrecht, Castellan, and Sword Brethren as we see what the minis are all about!

Rob is back unboxing the latest releases for the Black Templars and sharing his thoughts on the minis. He sees what it takes to get them ready for the tabletop, shows the size of the models, and tells you the GOTCHAS to be aware of when building them!

We are going to show you everything including the sprues, bits, and of course, the size. That way you can decide if these are worth your hard-earned hobby dollars.

Templars Helbrecht unboxing 2These are the three boxes we’ll be taking a look at today and the final wave of releases for the Black Templars. For pricing, the Sword Brethren retail for $55, the Castellan runs for $35, and Helbrecht runs for $45. So a little pricey but not terrible overall.

Castellan Unboxing

Templars Helbrecht unboxing 3It’s just a single sprue and a 40mm base, so there’s not a lot of options for it.

Templars Helbrecht unboxing 4There’s a lot of slices and dices for a single miniature. The arms, skulls, and shoulder pads are all split, so might actually be a little annoying to build.

Templars Helbrecht unboxing 5It’s honestly a great miniature when built and just has a ton of detail! It’s so Banche it’s amazing. The only issue is you can see some seams where the splits are. Rob recommends using the Tamiya Extra-Thin Cement to take care of that gapping.

Templars Helbrecht unboxing 6If you want to drill out your barrels, Rob takes a thumb and pushes it right into the center area of the barrel. Then, take your drill and use that as a pilot hole to get a well-centered hole.

Templars Helbrecht unboxing 7They don’t specifically say whether he is Primaris or not, but he lines up pretty well in height to one.

Templars Helbrecht Unboxing

Templars Helbrecht unboxing 8Obviously, he comes with way more stuff than the Castellan. The sprue itself is really detailed and they even textured the base. The attendants look cool as well and they should go together super easily.

Templars Helbrecht unboxing 9There is a lot going on here with the instructions. There are a lot of small pieces and just splits everywhere. We’ll have to see how it builds, but just be careful as there are so many small parts, it could take some serious time. Nothing too crazy hard, just a lot going on.

Templars Helbrecht unboxing 11It just has so much going on in so many places! Rob also just put on all the attendants with blue tac so you can paint them all separately. Everything locked in really well and there is just detail all over the place. There are a few gaps, but the Tamiya really helps fill those in.

Sword Brethren Unboxing

Templars Helbrecht unboxing 12The last unit we’ll take a look at is the Sword Brethren. We’re not sure how competitive they are, but they are just super cool and fluffy!

Templars Helbrecht unboxing 13There are three different sprues and they have so many options!

Templars Helbrecht unboxing 14The instructions are pretty long because there are just so many options and they show you how to make all of them. If you want some really cool minis in your army, this is a great option.

Templars Helbrecht unboxing 15At first, Rob wanted to magnetize all the arms to take advantage of all the weapons (he gets his magnets from the Magnet Baron). However, all of the weapons actually glue to the hand, not from the shoulder joint.

Templars Helbrecht unboxing 16Rob isn’t sure why they do it this way, but unfortunately, magnetizing this would be really hard and that just makes the value of the box go down. There is a way to do it by getting some assault intercessor chainsword and pistol arms, magnetizing those at the shoulder along with the specialized Black Templars ones here.

You could also use the extra arms from Crusader Squads as well instead of Assault intercessors.

Watch the video for more on that!

AndreRob was going to finish the build of these, but unfortunately one of his cats passed away as he was starting to build them. Don’t forget to show your fur babies some extra love this busy time of year!
