Grey Knights Stand Strong at Alamo GT: 40k Army List

40k-homebrew-army-listsSpace Marines are still kicking in competitive play as an off-meta Grey Knights Warhammer 40k army list emerged in The Alamo GT Major!

9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players take lists with units that nobody expected. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. This just goes to show us that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we can look back at the event as if we were all there ourselves. You can check out the event details here.

If you wanted to see the names and factions of the overall winners, we’ve included that below.

However, we aren’t covering all those lists, instead, we will be looking at just one of our favorites this week.

The Alamo GT: Jeff Ptak – Grey Knights 10th Place

Jeff Ptak 1In a very competitive meta surrounded by Eldar and Tyranids galore, Jeff was able to pull through a solid 5-1 record with his Grey Knights! The list is pretty similar to what we saw after their own update, but it looks like they still might be a decent option even with the update power creep already being clear in 9th edition.

Jeff went for a single battalion of Grey Knights led by 2 Librarians for bonus psychic support and a Grand Master in Nemesis Dreadknight, which is a phenomenal single model with durability, firepower in melee and range, a great hit re-roll aura, and the ability to cast psychic powers!

Troops keep it simple with 3 base Strike Squads to fill out the role requirement and get a few decent bodies to push up the board or sit on objectives.

Jeff Ptak 2

Elites bing in an Apothecary, which buffs attacks and leadership of nearby models, and 10 Paladins which are the slightly more elite variant of the Strike Squads. They have better melee weapons, a better stat line, and a 5+ invuln.

Fast Attacks have 10 Interceptors, which offer mobility to the list and can pick off damaged units or take less convenient far-away objectives.

Finally closing the list are Heavy Supports with 2 Nemesis Dreadknights. These are the slightly cheaper version of the Grand Master HQ, but they offer very similar levels of power, without the extra support and benefit of being a character.
