space marine wal hor tourneyThree more 40k army lists in the fresh 9th Edition meta rose to the top at the Flying Monkey Con GT, check out what they brought!

The Flying Monkey Con 40k GT was held in Kansas over the weekend and brought a whopping 74 players to the tables to roll some dice. With the meta still fresh, here are the lists that placed at the top of the leaderboards.

3rd Place: Death Guard- Charles Velazquez

velazquez DG 1In true Death Guard fashion, they rolled onto the table making the most out of heavy anti-tank and artillery firepower. Some basic options were taken for Troops in a Battalion with a Daemon Prince taking the Warlord position. However, the real workhorses of the list were three Lascannon Contemptors that hung back in the field. Between three models alone, there were 12 S9 shots going out a turn.

velazquez DG 2To double down on long-ranged High Strength firepower, Three Myphitic Blight-haulers and two PBCs also hit the field. Between the Contemptors, the Blight-haulers, and the PBCs any armor caught out in the open really didn’t stand a chance. This is one of the most potent gunlines we’ve ever seen in 9th Edition. On that note, a Termite Assault Drill also made it onto the board transporting (probably) the unit of Plague Marines as a means of holding an objective or two.

2nd Place: Salamanders- David Villareal

flying monkey salamandersMaking use of some of the new Primaris goodies from Indmitus as well as some basic Space Marine staples, this Salamanders list finished in 2nd place. Instead of bringing a Battalion and dumping points into a bunch of troops, this list capitalized on Elites and Heavy Supports to do the heavy lifting.

A Smash Captain on a Bike was the Warlord and co-lead with Adrax Agatone. A Single Incursos squad was brought to probably have thems tart on an objective outside of the deployment zone. Beyond that a fatty unit of flamer Aggressors and a squad of Bladeguard Vets made up the Elites section. While only one unit can Overwatch now, those Flamer Aggressors would be the magic eraser for anyone foolish enough to try and tarpit them in melee.

Finally, some Devastators with the Grav loadout were thrown into a Drop Pod and more than likely landed down next to some poorly placed armor in the first few turns of the game. With the 1CP Gravitic Amplification Strat, this unit was able to drop down and have a super high chance of deleting something before any guns turned on them. Eradicators were also brought because they’re literally an auto-include for Sallys.

1st Place: Salamanders- Dan Sammons

dan sammons salamanders 1Looking at the Salamanders who finished in 1st, Dan brought three Scout Squads (one with Snipers). By doing this, Dan was able to start the game with a majority of out-of-deployment objectives covered.

dan sammons salamanders 2Here’s where we get into all the hotness from the Indomitus box. First of all, three squads of Aggressors were taken to get into position and unleash punishing volleys of flamers and bolters. But beyond that, three squads of Bladeguards were able to act as speed bumps in the middle of the board. Once these guys connected, chewing through 9 wounds with a 2+/4++ is pretty rough and at a minimum, they would tie up a unit for a turn.

For some speed, two Outrider Squads were also taken. Moving up to a whopping 20″ a turn, these dudes were probably there for quick objective securing more than anything.

dan sammons salamanders 3Finally, the same Grav Devastator Drop Pod bomb wombo combo from before also made an appearance. However, doubling down on more anti-armor, two squads of Eradicators were also brought. Seeing that these guys all carry super meltas, they’re tailor-made for any Salamanders list.
