GW Owns Their Mistake with Leagues of Votann FAQ

Well, after some community backlash (especially at tournaments), the Leagues of Votann FAQ NERFS have already dropped.

Generally, these take about 30 days (standard for a GW FAQ), but it looks like they didn’t want the faction banned at tournaments, so before they could even go to a single one, GW brought out the nerf. Obviously, there was a mixed reaction to tournaments saying they wouldn’t allow them. So, maybe this is a good thing, maybe not.

We really didn’t have much data to go on, but either way, it’s happening.

On another note, this is quite frustrating for people who just got the book, and it already has changed, but we’ve come to expect that. The news comes from Warhammer Community; let’s check out the Leagues of Votann FAQ changes.

Leagues of Votann Rules Changes FAQ Already Here

Leagues of Votann FAQ

First, let’s hear what GW had to say about the nerfs:

We’ve got a devoted rules team, and an amazing group of playtesters, but even after a rigorous testing period, sometimes we miss things that a passionate world-wide community of hundreds of thousands will quickly spot.

We’re sorry we didn’t get these rules right out of the gate.

And we’ll fix it.

We’re changing the way that Judgement Tokens work, so that hits benefiting from them no longer count as an automatic 6 to wound.

So, this Leagues of Votann FAQ has a few big changes, mainly for Magna Rail, because if you had three judgement tokens on a unit, on a 4+ to hit, the damage would automatically spill over and turned the gun into a unit and vehicle killer.

Now, it’s going to be much riskier to shoot it at a unit if you want the damage to spill over. Secondly, this also hurts the -1 AP for rolling a 6 to wound. So, a pretty big change, honestly.

Especially now, you almost don’t want to shoot Magna at units with a bunch of judgement tokens, as you won’t even have the possibility of wounds spilling over; it’s almost better to hope you get the hit and at least have the chance of rolling that 6 to wound.

We’ve kept the changes pretty simple…

There’s an increase in points for units across the army.

There are some huge changes here, and with the changes, we’re not sure if the Hekaton will be DOA or not; we’ll just have to wait and see on that. Here’s a quick summary of the points changes:

HQ:

  • Uthar 140 – 160
  • Einhyr 90 – 110
  • Grymnyr 80 – 90
  • Kahl 70 – 80
  • Brokhyr Iron-master 80 – 90

Troops:

  • Hearthkyn Warriors 11 – 12

Elites:

  • Cthonian Beserks 22 – 30
  • Einhyr Hearthguard 35 – 45

Fast Attack:

  • Sagitaur 110 – 130
  • Hernkyn Pioneers 30 – 35

Heavy Support:

  • Hekaton Land Fortress 230 – 300
  • Brokhyr Thunderkyn 35 – 40

There is a ton of increases, especially when you look at the Beserks and Hekaton. Going up 70 points and having the guns nerfed is no joke!

Then Hearthguard going up ten points is another biggie. Every unit is getting an increase, so these are pretty serious and shows GW either listened to the tournament community or didn’t test it out as much as they maybe should have.

Either way, this is a huge NERF basically day one. you can download the changes here.
