Today we’re taking a closer look at some characters you may have skipped over in 8th Edition 40k. Join us as we explore the Inquisitors and the reasons how good they are.
Inquisitors used to be a powerhouse in other editions and a lot of people seemed turned off by their stats in 8th edition. We are going to give you a few reasons why you might want to pop one in a land raider with your chapter.
All Inquisitors come with the Authority of the Inquisition rule that allows them to hitch a ride with any imperium vehicle. This gives the unit a ton of flexibility. But perhaps the best part about the inquisitors is their psychic abilities.
Dominate
Dominate goes off on a roll of a 7 (something that’s easily doable on 2 dice) and it lets you pick a character within 18″ and force them to shoot or attack a unit near them. How about controlling a plague spewer to hose down some pox walkers?
Or a Daemon Prince to play whack-a-mole with some Khorne Berserkers.
Terrify
Terrify has a warp charge of 6 and stops the enemy from firing overwatch along with giving them a -1 leadership modifier. This basically says “thanks for not auto-hitting me 300 times with your flamers.” Any assault army would be mad to charge a gun line without an inquisitor getting inside the enemy’s head.
Mental Fortitude
Mental fortitude has a warp charge of 4 which means it’s basically always going to happen and is best complimented with Imperial Guard. Allowing an entire unit to automatically pass morale is huge when you use it on a 30 man penal squad.
Why Take Inquisitor Coteaz?
This is a simple answer. Psyber Eagle. He’s pretty tanky with a 2+ save and 5 wounds, he comes with a daemon hammer (even though it’s only strength 6), he lets any imperium unit use his leadership, and he can take a psychic power from the Telethesia discipline.
The Ordo Malleus buffs are nice too but more than half the time he’s just buffing himself.

Why Take Inquisitor Greyfax?
Greyfax sits at 85 points and she’s a bit of a sparkplug. She can cast 1 psychic power and deny 2. She’s also +1 to deny and she can target psykers even when they aren’t the closest model. Oh yeah, and did we mention her boltgun does 3 damage flat when she hits the psyker?
Her downside is that she’s squishier than a 2 month-old piece of fruit. so bubblewrap her and she will repay her points in no time.
Why Take Inquisitor Eisenhorn?
Eisenhorn costs 100 points as well and he cast 2 and deny 2, comes stock with a 6+ feel no pain, and use the Malus Codicium.
What’s the Malus Codicium? It’s just a small book that Eisenhorn can use to pop out a sweet Daemonhost beats-tick for free. The Daemonhost has the character keyword and has its strength, toughness, wounds, and attacks increased by 2. Eisenhorn also buffs him by increasing his saves by 1 and adding 1 to his hit and wound rolls.
After taking a look at the named inquisitors, we hope you spend that 1CP to throw one into an auxiliary detachment and see the benefits of the Inquisition for yourself.
