In a recent interview, Henry Cavill talks about how much he wants to make a Warhammer 40k movie, his favorite armies, and even the meta!
This post was updated on April 4th, 2025, by Rob Baer with the latest about show runner Henry Cavill’s big Warhammer movie series.
In a recent chat on the Pilot TV Podcast, Henry Cavill sat down to talk about The Witcher, which, to be fair, is the reason he was invited—but it didn’t take long before the conversation took a sharp turn into Warhammer territory. Because, of course, it did. This is Cavill we’re talking about.
He didn’t just mention Warhammer in passing. He went full steam ahead into it, talking about his favorite armies, what kind of Warhammer 40k movie he’d like to make, and even his thoughts on the current meta.
Not just an actor who plays a Witcher, but one who knows the difference between a Custodes and a Grey Knight? We love to see it. And now he’s making an official Warhammer series!
Cavill’s Big Dream

Around the 23-minute mark of the interview, Cavill starts riffing on what he’d really love to do: make a Warhammer 40k movie. Not just star in one—help create it. Writing, producing, the whole deal.
He’s got a vision, and it’s not some low-budget fan flick. Luckily, since this interview went down, Cavill has been given the helm for a Warhammer and Amazon series!
The interviewer tossed out the idea of Cavill playing Inquisitor Eisenhorn, which would honestly be awesome… but Cavill wasn’t sold. His reason? He’d rather play a Primarch.
Big armor. Bigger stakes. Potential for a Heresy-era epic? Count us in.
He emphasized that if this movie’s ever going to happen, it needs to be handled with care, comparing it to the level of detail and respect Peter Jackson gave The Lord of the Rings. He’s not interested in a fast cash grab. He wants this to be done right, or not at all.
You can listen to the interview here, and his part starts at the 24:34 mark.
Henry Cavill on Playing Warhammer 40k:
In that same chat, Cavill talked about his actual 40k gameplay preferences. While he hasn’t played Age of Sigmar, he’s been in the 40k trenches since his younger days. Apparently, teenage Cavill didn’t have many opponents to play against, but he still bought and read every single army book like it was a sacred text.
When asked about his favorite armies? Custodes take the throne (literally), with Blood Angels and Salamanders Space Marines not far behind. He also gave a nod to the Grey Knights, calling out how powerful they’ve become thanks to the latest codex.
So yes, he’s up to speed on what’s going on in the game, too. He might be Superman, but when it comes to the Warhammer 40,000 universe, he’s just one of us—with a bit more star power and a much nicer paint station. Speaking of painting, let’s get into his painting and hobby love!
Henry Cavill Plays (or at Least Paints) Custodes!
Let’s kick things off with Cavill’s painting game. The man isn’t just talking the talk—he’s at home, brush in hand, putting gold accents on Custodes helmets like it’s his part-time job. And let’s be clear: these aren’t messy, slap-some-color-on minis.
These are clean, detailed, edge-highlighted masterpieces. And if you’ve ever tried to paint those sharp metallic edges without just drybrushing and hoping for the best, you know that takes some serious patience. Cavill clearly isn’t phoning it in.
So… Is the Henry Cavill Warhammer Movie Happening?
Not just a movie anymore—things just got a whole lot bigger. As of now, Henry Cavill, Games Workshop, and Amazon have officially joined forces to bring Warhammer 40k to life as a full-blown series. Yep, this dream project of his? It’s actually happening. The early stages are already in motion, with the initial projects now in development.
And honestly, who better to lead the charge? Cavill lives and breathes this stuff. He’s got the lore locked down, respects the source material like it’s sacred scripture, and wants to do right by the fans. He’s not here to slap his face on a poster and call it a day—he’s involved behind the scenes, working with writers to make sure this thing feels like Warhammer.
So now it’s not a matter of “if”—it’s “when.” And let’s be real: if anyone can pull off a series that doesn’t fumble the God-Emperor, it’s this guy.
