The GW US Open Austin happened over the weekend with some pretty sweet 40k army lists towards the top!
The top overall players were a lot of the same stagnant meta that has hung over tournaments like the ghost of the Knight Castellan, so we’re featuring some of the more unique lists that placed high instead!
Top Warhammer 40k Army Lists: GW US Open Austin
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.
If you wanted to see the names and factions of the overall winners, we’ve included that below.
However, we aren’t covering all those lists, instead, we will be looking at just a few of our favorite, but still strong lists!
Also if you happened to miss it, the meta will be changing in some manner due to the new Balance Update for 40k that Games Workshop published.
14th Place: Dan Sammons – Imperium
13th Place: Matt Allee – Knights Renegades
3rd Place: Jack Harpster – Grey Knights
Grey Knights are on the rise post-balance update.
Jack went with 2 detachments of Grey Knights. The first is a patrol led by Castellan Crowe, who is a great character with a decent melee weapon and a Grand Master Dreadknight serves as a great psyker with support for the list and can teleport in. He also comes with some hard-hitting melee and ranged weapons making him a beast in all-around combat and utility.
A single Strike Squad is the only troop to add some bodies which help to take objectives and fill out the Troop requirement.
There are also 2 extra normal Nemesis Dreadknights which like the Grandmaster are a beast in ranged and melee combat, however, does not get his extra goodies that come with being a more expensive HQ.
The second detachment is led by a Techmarine to heal up vehicles and a Grand Master Dreadknight filling the same role as the first detachment.
While 3 units of 10 interceptors add quite a few more bodies with extra mobility helping to snag points and zip around the field.
Closing out the list is a final Nemesis Dread, which brings the functional count all the way up to 5, making up more than half of the list’s points, and as the best unit since their update, that makes perfect sense!
