Looks like the cat may be out of the bag now as to what fall’s Space Marine release will be. Here’s the latest rumors on lineup and pricing.
Warhammer Community revealed we’ve got even more Primaris Marines headed our way with some new-old characters, wargear, and some squads from the Shadowspear Box Set.
But how much will all cost, and when will it come out? Judging by the first weeks of pricing we should be able to get a pretty good idea now. Check out that latest rumors from the Warhammer previews at NoVA, and our thoughts on the rest of the upcoming models and more!
Here’s what we know and can assume from the first four supplement waves to be announced by GW:
- Each chapter seems to get a new primaris character, data card release, and upgrade sprue/decal sheet release.
- The next two supplements are said to Salamanders and “Fists” sometime in the fall according to Industry Insiders.
- Each chapter has gotten their own Psychic discipline as well, that seems to “future-proof” them into the Psychic Awakening.
- The final primaris units to be released at the Impulsor and the Infiltrator squads, most likely with the rumored Salmanders/ Fists release later this fall.
Shadow & Iron
Warhammer Community revealed the release lineup that goes up on preorder September 14th. If you enjoy any of the loyalist Space Marines, this is going to be a great set of releases!
Codex Supplement: Raven Guard
Codex Supplement: Raven Guard will serve as your ultimate companion to collecting these consummate stealth specialists. Seriously, they’re like 8-foot-tall, armoured, genetically engineered ninjas! As well as providing you with a detailed background and military organisation of the Chapter, you’ll gain access to psychic powers from the Umbramancy discipline
We should expect to find all of their unique rules here, including warlord traits and artifacts. Not to mention lore, lore, and more lore!
Codex Supplement: Iron Hands
Available in both digital formats, hardback or as a premium Collector’s Edition, Codex Supplement: Iron Hands is packed with everything you could ever possibly want to know about the Sons of the Gorgon. In battle, your Iron Hands psykers will also be able to master the Technomancy discipline
We should also expect to see new traits and abilities that thematically fit into the army as well. Not to mention all the lore any dedicated player could ever want!
Datacards
For ease of gameplay, don’t forget to pick up the respective Datacard sets for the Raven Guard and Iron Hands. Each pack includes a full set of Tactical Objectives for Maelstrom of War missions, as well as their Chapter’s bespoke psychic discipline and Stratagems to make keeping track of your army in battle nice and easy.
Primaris Upgrade and Transfer Sets
If you are into the shadow hunters, well this upgrade set does not disappoint. Just try to think happy thoughts while you are hobbying on these.
To help get the units in your Raven Guard and Iron Hands collections ready for the battlefield, we’ve got the perfect accessory kits, each providing you with Chapter-specific shoulder pads and thematic accoutrements for your Primaris units, as well as two transfer sheets packed with iconography. As you would expect, the Iron Hands kit includes an array of bionic replacements, while the Raven Guard set even includes the first-ever ‘beaky’ helmet for the Primaris Space Marines range, styled in the manner of the classic Mk VI Corvus-pattern power armour!
Bionics! The Iron Hands upgrade does not disappoint. Speaking of Iron Hands remember the Iron Father from springtime?
Kayvaan Shrike
As a Chapter Master, Kayvaan Shrike will cater for all your re-roll-based needs (and we all have those needs), and he’s an expert at leading Vanguard and Jump Pack troops, so will make an excellent leader for your Raven Guard when taking the fight to the enemy.
Shrike is also another addition to the group of Marine leaders to become Primaris. Another sign that Primaris is here to stay as all the major characters are being reworked into them!
Malkaan Feirros
As a Master of the Forge, Feirros is able to repair vehicles as the battle rages about him, but he is a warrior first and foremost. Feirros can effortlessly cut foes down with his shoulder-mounted artificer heavy bolter, Gorgon’s Wrath, and hew any who dare to draw within reach of his cog-toothed axe, Harrowhand.
Feirros may not be a chapter master, but he’s still sure to be a beast on the field. Also, with him being Master of the Forge, it allows for some more fluff options in terms of lore and custom characters for games!
Also going on pre-order September 14th is the Lieutenant, and Eliminator models, leaving just the Infiltrators and Impulsor to be officially released. Let’s take a look at some of our pricing estimates based on previous releases on the Imperial side of things.
Primaris Impulsor $75?
The Imperium took a Rhino chassis and rolled it through the ol’ grav-tech factory bringing us the Impulsor. The Impulsor is running a handful of the same weapons spotted on the Invictor Warsuit. However, it’s also got some side-sponsons Bolters for some added dakka. The best part about this model is that this is the first Primaris Dedicated Transport.
Comparing it to the Ad Mech Skorpius, the last “hover” transport to come out for the Imperium, and the repulsor at $85, $75 seems to be the high range for this model. It may clock in at $65 seeing as how it is not a dual kit. Only time will tell for sure here!
Primaris Reiver Lieutenant $35?
Spotted on the Primaris Lieutenant Twitter account, a new character-looking Reiver Lieutenant was unblurred. This model comes from the video we saw a while back showcasing a whole slew of blurred-out Primaris models.
With multiple previews on this character, it looks like a Reiver Lieutenant is on the way! Now, you’ll be able to keep phobos-themed army strong with another Lieutenant model.
$35 seems to be the new standard for non-named characters.
Eliminator Squads $50?
Moving into the stuff first spotted out of Shadowspear, Eliminators are getting a kit of their own with a few new sculpts. Plus, the Las-Fusils spotted in the Apocalypse datasheet are going to be a 40k weapon option as well.
The only thing we have to compare these to are Centurions and Inceptors, both of which are $50 or higher and have multiple options just like these models.
Infiltrator Squads $60 For 10, $35 For 5??
In the same vein, Infiltrator squads are getting their own kit as well. These guys are making a name for themselves in 8th edition’s meta and now, the Infiltrators might be getting more sculpts (and maybe more weapon options).
This kit also makes another version of models as well now. So it’s possible that their path to market may be a 5 man box at first for $35-40, and then later on a 10 pack may become available for $60-70. Or vice versa. It’s hard to say with any certainty what path to market these will take, but they are staples that many lists will be running now.
Iron Father Malkaan Feirros (and new primaris characters): $35-$40?
Sure we know Tiggy and Khan are $40 now, and the other non-special character primaris characters are $35, that sets an important pricing standard of the previous $35/$25 not too long ago…
We think it’s safe to say the wait was worth it! This named Iron Father will be hitting shelves (and your opponents) later this year…
Rather unexpectedly, the Iron Hands got a named Primaris character coming to their faction. This took us by surprise for the fact that GW decided to show love to a very minor chapter in 40k. Makes a strong case for Iron Hands getting their own book in the latest preview.
Chapter Upgrade Kits: $25 ea
It a safe bet that the final new codex supplement chapters will also getting an Upgrade sprue in the future.
Also, bear in mind too that it is possible we will see the existing Fists sprue re-released as well because that only came in the holiday battleforce so far.
So where does that leave us for the rest of the Space Marine releases that are also on the way?
Product Mix Up Reveals New Codex?
A little label snafu may have just accidentally confirmed one of the 4 yet to be released codex supplements as well. This image was spotted on Reddit, and judging by the shadowing on the dice themselves it most likely is not doctored:
Guess we can safely check off the SALAMANDERS box for a new supplement now.
7 New Space Marine Codex Books!
So we know the new main SM codex is $40 and the supplements are $30 each. However, three weeks in, which final two books, and what new character models (if any) will be released seems to be the big question on most folks minds now.
To suggest that an Imperial Fist and a White Scar fight, in the same way, is nearly heresy – and the new codex and codex supplements really lean into the distinct identities of each Chapter to ensure they work on the tabletop the way they do in the lore. Codex: Space Marines has everything you need to play with an army of gene-enhanced super-soldiers, and each of the supplements offers you additional, Chapter-specific datasheets and thematic rules that emphasize their unique heritage and the genetic legacy of their Primarch.
So it goes without saying that the rumors about a new Ultramarines and White Scars codex book were true, so that leaves 4 more chapters to get named on those ++redacted supplement++ spines.
The usual suspects could be:
- Raven Guard (Confirmed)
- Iron Hands (Confirmed)
- Imperial Fists (mentioned above in GW’s preview)- This could, in fact, be a “Fist Soup” book of all the Dorn Chapter rules.
- Salamanders (Confirmed per above?)
Remember that the Crimson Fists just got updated earlier in the year via the first Index Astartes White Dwarf Article.
RUMORS: 40k Psychic Awakening Book 1
Psychic Awakening book one will be on the way soon to set the stage for the advancement of the 40k plotline and rules. Here are the latest rumors.
What are your thoughts on all the new Space Marine support on the way? Which supplements do you think we’ll see for the final two?
