TIME SENSITIVE EMERGENCY BROADCAST FROM HELLFORGE 666
Greetings Chaos faithful, JStove here with a special emergency announcement for your traitorous needs. A new Forge World FAQ was just released for loyalist lapdogs and the blessed sons of the True Gods. It has dropped a bomb for Chaos players. Let’s go straight to the highlight reel.
Contemptor Dreadnoughts gain the HELBRUTE keyword.
This is just a minor change on paper but is a big deal because it goes a long way to clearing up list-building dilemmas. Now that the Contemptor is properly tagged as a Helbrute, it should fit seamlessly into any list that allows Helbrutes, and into Dreadclaw drop pods that can carry Helbrutes. This may or may not look like a big deal to you, depending on how you like to build your army. If you’re unfamiliar with traitor Contemptors or you ignored them because of the massive Deredeo or Leviathan, this is what you need to see – Traitor Contemptors are a great way to get a cheap plastic model with awesome weapon options that you typically only see on bigger, more expensive Forge World units that your wallet doesn’t like.
It can still get the 30k favorite Kheres assault cannon, a soul burner which fires 2d3 shots that auto-mortal wound, the butcher cannon, a heavy flamer with D2, and an ectoplasma cannon that always fires on hot mode but doesn’t blow up. For the low budget warpsmith, the Contemptor can get you a lot of heat.
Chaos gets a Deimos Vindicator Laser Destroyer
We cribbed it from the loyalist book and gave it the hellforged rules. Awesome if you had one kicking around in your 30k army and were worried that it didn’t make it to the 41st millennium.
List building keywords clarified
The FAQ clarified god marks, legion keywords, and told us who could take what. This is a big deal for the legion specific lists in the Chaos Index that currently can’t take the full codex list of options in their legion. The Forge World units can go a long way to filling in the holes made by the legion lists that don’t allow Chaos staple units.
SONIC DREADS ARE BACK, BABY!
Saved the best for last. The sonic dreadnought returns! You use the normal Helbrute sheet in the Index Chaos but you have the option to buy a doom siren and 2 blastmasters. It must keyword SLAANESH and EMPEROR’S CHILDREN. The doom siren doesn’t replace another weapon, so if you want to build an assault dread, you can stack that bad boy up with auto hit assault weapons and run it into someone and just roll dice. The 2 blastmaster build is also an upgrade over the previous edition, where the sonic dread could double tap if it stood still.
Now it can just run and shoot everything. It’s a walking noise missile!
