The trailer for Disney+’s X-Men ’97 is here, along with the cast list, which offers clues to the continued story from the classic cartoon!
This new revival, set to premiere on Disney+ on March 20, will continue the story from the original X-Men: The Animated Series, with many of the original voice actors returning to reprise their roles. The show will retain the look and feel of the original series and feature updated costumes inspired by artist Jim Lee’s designs from the comics of that era.
Marvel To Release X-Men ’97 For Disney Plus On March 20th
The trailer Dropped on February 15th on Marvel’s YouTube channel to overwhelming fanfare. From the story to the voices and even the opening theme, everyone who grew up in the mid-90s is excited for this upcoming continuation. They’ve kept the animation style from the original for the most part with that Jim Lee feel.
Some astute viewers have even pointed out that this may be connected to The Amazing Spider-Man, as one of the articles in the newspaper can be seen pontificating on whether or not ol’ Spidey is considered a mutant.
They are even bringing back one of the favorite enemies in the Sentinels! If you watched the old show, this is awesome to see. We only got a glimpse of them in the trailer, but that’s enough to build excitement.
What is X-Men ’97
- X-Men ’97 is a show on Disney+ that revives the popular X-Men: The Animated Series that aired from 1992 to 1997. The original series was based on the X-Men comic books of that time and featured popular characters such as Cyclops, Storm, Jubilee, Wolverine, and Jean Grey. Technically, it is the first X-Men project from Marvel Studios since it acquired the rights for the characters from 20th Century Fox.
- The new series will continue the story from the original, which ended with Professor X leaving for space in search of a cure for his terminal illness. It will retain the look and feel of the original series, including updated costumes inspired by artist Jim Lee’s designs from the comics of that era.
- Many of the voice actors from the original series will return to reprise their roles, while others will voice new characters in the revival. Although the show is a Marvel Studios product, it is not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the team has hinted at potential connections.
- The 10-episode revival will premiere on March 20, 2024, and a second season is currently in production.

Disney+ unveiled the official teaser poster for the upcoming show, which has a retro late-1990s feel. The poster features VHS tapes with different characters on the covers of each tape.
It’ll be exciting to see how well they can keep the feel of the original, as it’s been 27 years since the original stopped airing. The premiere of X-Men ’97 will be taking place on Disney+ on March 20th, so don’t miss out on the return of your favorite childhood mutants!
