Papa Nurgle is at it again, bringing forth from the Warp his greatest prize: Primarch Mortarion. Take a look at the fully painted Lord of Contagion!

This Mortarion was won by a viewer on Twitch and was given the option to have customized colors on the base. The viewer requested the base to be brown, which makes the blues and other colors around the model pop very nicely. Mortarion was painted separately from the base then put on the base when completed. With this model, it is recommended to do so to maintain the ability to paint all the details, especially for the metal details, dangly bits, hoses, cloud effects, and chains.
The non-traditional greens used for the armour was a combination of P3’s Iosin Green, and Necrotite Green with a high yellow highlight of Flash Gitz Yellow from Games Workshop. Rob added a glaze using Waywatcher Green to bring out more details from the pitting and pustules. The purples were done with a combo of different purples and pinks, giving the cloak an almost iridescent flow as the model is moved.
The wing membrane has a base of Bugman’s Glow and tinted purple with a wash from Druchii Violet. The wings themselves are fleshy and tinted with Agrax Earthshade, similarly to how Games Workshop worked up the model, though they washed the wings with Fleshshade rather than Agrax Earthshade. The steels with fairly pristine colors and have lots of room for weathering and adding in Typhus Corrosion at a later time.
Size-wise, Mortarion is just smaller than Magnus the Red’s Daemon Primarch model, since Magnus has broader wings and is a bit bulkier. Mortarion is taller than a Redemptor Dreadnought, which is on the same size base as the two Primarchs. The Imperial Knight compares to the size of Mortarion pretty well, though the Imperial Reaver Titan dwarfs the Primarch of Contagion (and, really, just about everything). Overall, he is a large, incredibly detailed model and the perfect addition to any collection.
