Two big surprises list wise over the weekend for competitive 40k. Don’t miss the top three armies that came out on top at the Gibraltar GT’s meta!

The Gibraltar GT by SN Battle Reports hosted a nearly one-hundred player event for 40k. Out of all the matches, three lists came out on top. Take a look at these meta bruisers. Keep in mind, these are some unique lists that give us some insight of what lists we can expect to see in areas outside of the U.S.

Thanks to Best Coast Pairings, we can actually look back at all the details of the lists.

1st Place: Dark Eldar- Boris Michev

This list is running the classic Dark Eldar wombo combos of 8th edition. Spamming the deceivingly tanks Wracks as troops and leaving the Talos’s, Grotesques, and Ravagers to crack open the heavy stuff is a real triple threat on the table.

The Spearhead detachment was keyworded as Kabal of the Black Heart just to have the option to Agents of Vect something crucial during the game. All in all, this is a nice list that really focuses in on one faction. Get that soup out of here!

2nd Place: Astra Militatrum- Adrien Bonal

Looking at this Guard list, would you believe we’re not seeing infantry spam and a Castellan? Instead, we’re seeing a whopping 1400 pts poured into a Lord of War detachment.

With two Banehammers and a Macharius Vulcan, this Guard regiment wasn’t holding any punches. With three tanks roughly the size of K-Mart on the board, this deployment was tight. But it could most definitely pack a punch! They even spent the stratagem to bring an assassin for whatever kind of enemy they faced. It essentially says “spend 1CP to take a unit to counter whatever you’re up against”.

3rd Place: Blood Angels- Joe Moscardini

Here, we’ve got an exceptionally unique Blood Angels list. Only one Smash Captain was taken and everything else turned out to be Primaris.

Looking at this list, we could see the Primaris Captain and Lieutenant buddying up next to the Repulsors and Dreadnoughts for all the rerolls. Meanwhile, the Smash Captain pummeled anything that was getting too out-of-hand into submission. This list is surprising simply because it’s so shooty for a Blood Angels players. Most Blood Angels lists want to capitalize on the +1 to wound but the Redemptors are already Strength (yes) wounding nearly everything on a 2+ anyway. It seems like the Chapter was only taken solely for Mini Robby G aka Smash Captain.

All in all, these were some very unique lists that were spotted at Gibraltar’s GT. The lists were all under 2,000 pts so keep that in mind, but tell us what you think about their compositions. What’s your favorite faction in 40k right now? Let us know in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
