Hidden in plain sight again! Games Workshop hid an age-old Easter egg in one of their new Chaos 40k models. Check this out!

We know that Games Workshop still creates models based off of their older content from way back in the day. For example, the revival of Necromunda brought updates to all kinds of models in the game and they still kept their retro-punk style.  Today we find traces of 6th Edition Warhammer Fantasy inside the latest 40k Chaos Release from one hobbyist who did a little extra research!

GW Hides an Easter Egg in the Noctilith Crown

Sent in from Lawrence Headly, who has been playing since the days of 2nd edition 40k as well as the past editions of Warhammer Fantasy.

A few years back I got Kharn the betrayer tattooed on my back and in the smoke I had my name in chaos runes. This was inspired by the runes from the Warhammer Hordes of Chaos book.

To my great pleasure when I first saw the runes on the new Noctilith crown, I immediately recognized them. They are indeed the same as the alphabet in the Hordes of Chaos book.

As a nice little fluffy add-on to the game, GW kept their old Chaos alphabet running. It adds a sense of “realness” to the game…like every Chaos faction can read these runes and know what they mean. Unfortunately, they don’t really mean much because this hobby maniac has already deciphered it.

I have deciphered the letter on the Noctilith crown, unfortunately, they don’t translate into anything legible other than “war” and some other garbled words.

While it doesn’t have any effect on the playability of the game, it’s a really cool Easter egg nonetheless. How long have you been playing 40k? Have you ever seen these Chaos runes? Let us know in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
