There have been some recent reports coming out that Robert Downey Jr. could be joining Star Wars in the next season of The Mandalorian!
While he promises we’ll never see him take up the mantle of Iron Man again, we might get to see him in another Disney property. Very few actors get to leave their characters on such a high note, so if you’re still holding out hope for another Iron Man with him, well this may be the next best thing.
The Mandalorian has basically become the flagship program of Disney+. That means there are far more chances for them to pick up big stars for roles in the series. But who better to join than Robert Downey? The series has become so popular there are even reports they are going to replace some of the characters from the theme parks from the older movies with characters from the series.
Robert Downey Jr. Could be Joining Star Wars!
The new report doesn’t give too many direct details, but there was one name mentioned; Grand Admiral Thrawn.
It would not shock us at this point if RDJ takes a role like Grand Admiral Thrawn or some other major piece, and that this represents the beginning of a major movement within the acting and entertainment industry as to where the most oxygen (and money) is.
So what are the odds all this could happen? Well, it seems at least plausible, right? Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau have worked together many times before and, by all reports, have a great working relationship and friendship. Favreau is very savvy and is trying to bring in stars who are normally reserved for theatrical releases.
Now with Disney+ moving towards full streaming and away from theatrical releases, they can pay the checks to get these actors. For Downey, this would be a great move because he can attach himself to another beloved series and increase his star power even more.
This just seems like a slam dunk for everyone involved. The dedicated fans aren’t going anywhere and someone like Downey could bring in new fans and keep people interested when going into a new season. If they are looking at a star like Downey, who knows who else they may be thinking about. Could we see a far more star-studded line up next time around? Who knows.
Don’t forget, this is just a report and not anything confirmed, so while this would be amazing it could be nothing. But adding on a star like him would pay immediate dividends for Disney and who wouldn’t want to be in Star Wars?
