Rob is back unboxing the newest releases for Warhammer 40k as we’ll also take a look at the Cadian upgrades as well. He’ll see what it takes to get them ready for the tabletop, show you the models’ size, and tell you the GOTCHAS to be aware of when building them!

We will show you everything, including the sprues, bits, and of course, the size. That way, you can decide if this is worth your hard-earned hobby dollars.

IG Attilan Rough riders 2The Atillan box goes for $60, but that’s basically what every unit seems to be going for now. Then the upgrades go for $35, which is the same as the Black Templars box.

Instructions

IG Attilan Rough riders 3There is only one goad lance arm, and a decent number of spear tips. You could easily magnetize the arms if you wanted considering it’s only one per box.

The heads are actually two pieces, which look very fiddly. The horse is a decent number of pieces, but how it’s made, a lot of the seamlines should be hidden.

IG Attilan Rough riders 11Each horse has a bottom, top, feet, head, and left and right halves. So, there is a lot to build up for each horse. Just keep in mind, the rider heads are separate pieces, meaning you could easily just add some heads on whatever you want, and be good to go.

Attilan Rough Riders Sprues 9Then, each spear is quite a few pieces, so just pay attention. Overall though the instructions are very well-laid out.

Sprues

IG Attilan Rough riders 5The sprues are extremely detailed, as we said in the instructions though, there are just a ton of parts. They also just spread some of the bits all throughout the sprues, so really pay attention to the build key.

Built Minis

These Rough Riders look really cool! There is a ton of detail and extra parts galore. There can be a little bit of gapping in the model, but the barding of the horse hides almost all of it.

IG Attilan Rough riders 7On the inside of each horse part, GW wrote which horse they go for, so if you get confused, you should be able to match everything up by alphabet letters.

IG Attilan Rough riders 8It’s a shockingly large amount of parts for each model. The biggest issue is the reins. It’s actually a lot of effort getting everything lined up, so, just be ready for a decently long build if anything was built up to this point slightly off.

Size Comparisons

IG Attilan Rough riders 9Compared with the old Death Korps of Krieg riders, they are a decent amount bigger! On the new models though, you can easily just swap the heads out for Cadians or whatever you want.

IG Attilan Rough riders 10The base size is also quite different, but overall a good rework of the kit.

Cadian Upgrade Sprue

Cadian Upgrade SprueYou get two sprues in the box, and it really has a ton of extra bits and posing options inside.  It comes with a ton of arms, heads, and really cool bits.

Instructions

Cadian Upgrade Sprue 2The manual is really well done and shows you how and what to convert. Obviously, you don’t have to follow everything here, but it is a good starting point.

Cadian Upgrade Sprue 3The kit will really make a few units stand out, but for the price, you can only score so many. Unfortunately, Rob didn’t have a ton of time to build these up.

If you want to see all of Rob’s thoughts on both kits, be sure to check out the video below.
