Jack of Clubs is bringing you another awesome airbrushing Masterclass tutorial on painting Marneus Calgar, just in time for Vigilus!

Jack of Clubs is back with part 2 of the Marneus Calgar Masterclass series of painting tutorials. This time, we’re focusing on his leather and armor bits. Don’t forget to check out part 1 to follow along and learn to paint the Chapter Master of the Ultramarines and get him tabletop battle ready!

Starting off with the leather bits, Jack will first be using a Vallejo Heavy Sienna to get the brown leather started. He’ll follow up with a highlight of Vallejo Beasty Brown to help the browns pop on the leather and make it look aged and worn. A final highlight of Secret Weapons Miniatures Weapon Handle Wood gives it a finishing touch, fitting for Marneus.

Next, Jack will base the metallic portions of the model, and Scale 75 Decayed Metal is the color to fit in the recesses of the model and force out a shine on the gold metallic portions. The next highlight is Scale 75 Black Metal to lighten up the color and make way for the golds. The first gold color is another Scale 75 paint, Necro Gold.

This is applied in multiple layers in the deepest recesses to make the other golds robust and shiny. As we add more shading, the darks get darker and the brights get brighter to make the colors pop on this hero model.

Scale 75 Dwarven Gold is the first highlight gold. It has a yellow tint to it that helps fade into the other golds. Vallejo Elven Gold will help bring the finishing touches to the shiny golden effect we want to achieve on the hero of Macragge.
