Legendary Forests: Create the Perfect World REVIEW

In Legendary Forests, you play as a group of dryads who each want to make the best planet. Gameplay consists of one player, who is the “leader”, or architect drawing tiles randomly from their stack of forest tiles. Each other player then has to find that same numbered tile from their stack and play it onto their forest. When a number is drawn that features a white background, each player takes a monument token. These monuments are in the same three colors of leaves based on three different tree varieties; pink cherry blossom, red maple, and yellow ginko.

Legendary Forests

Each tile in Legendary Forests features a various mixture of one to four different colored leaves as well as half circled runes. When you place a new tile each side has to match the color that it touches. This also forms full circles of the runes. You earn one point for each full rune that has a monument matching the color of the leaves shown.

If you manage to fully enclose a section of leaves with a monument you earn two points per rune instead. So you want to try and make your sections as large as possible. This game has a slight amount of pushing your luck. At setup, the leader randomly discards five tiles that you never get to see. Based on which color of leaves you’re trying to expand the most, you may never get that perfect tile to complete that section. You also have to pick the right color monuments while they’re available since you only score areas that contain them.

Legendary Forests

Overall, Legendary Forests is a fantastic family level game. Our first game was followed up by three additional plays due to how fast and fun it is. The components are simple yet very pretty. The tree monuments look amazing on your forest., and the artwork is very colorful and striking.

If your group is looking for a lightweight filler that is gorgeous on the table, then I gotta recommend this game.
