40k Mario Kart: A Fun Way to Play With Your Friends

Invader ATV face shotIf you’re looking for a new way to play with your 40k models with a group of friends, we’ve got a new game mode for you to try- 40k Mario Kart!

We’ve all been there. A group of friends comes together at an LGS and there’s an odd number of players. You can try to play a free-for-all game and bring your cool 40k models. But if you’ve tried this you’ve probably left with a headache and noticed that the game becomes extremely slow. Well, if you’re looking to join in on a fun way to play with all of your friends in a casual way, try out this game we’ve made up.

40k Mario Kart: A Fun Way to Play With Your Friends

ork wal hor speed freeksThis might be Speed Freekz done right. All you need is a fast, small vehicle and a group of friends with similar models. Here are the details on how to play a game mode we’ve invented.

What you’ll need:

  • 1x 3 ft X 3 ft board (or bigger if you have a lot of people).
  • a decent amount of terrain to scatter onto the board.
  • 1x single vehicle that’s fast and about the size of your hand.
  • Objective markers.
  • Your faction’s codex.

Some great vehicle options are:

  • Impulsor
  • Land Speeder
  • Any Speed Freekz model
  • Dark Eldar Venom
  • GSC Ridgerunner
  • Tau Piranha
  • The Primaris buggy thing whenever it drops

To set up your game, you’ll want to draw out a circuit for your vehicles to go move across. You don’t have to have any road terrain pieces, but you can get a general idea of where your cars are allowed to go. You’ll want to draw this out in a big loop. You can make it as curvy or as straight as you like. Then, you’ll want to place objective markers in the center of the roads AT LEAST 18″ away from each other.

Once you’ve done this, line up your cars and roll a D6 for priority. Once everybody moves their model, you’ll roll a D6 again to see who gains priority for that turn. As you move down the track, every time you drive over an objective, you roll a D20 and look at the ranged weapon list options in the back of your codex.

ranged weapon listNote: Some pages have more than 20 options for wargear. Just keep it capped at 20 for sake of ease. If you find that some really good weapons are outside of 20, pick another faction, stop crying, or just get better noob.

Once you match what you rolled with the weapon on the list, you can shoot with it. As soon as you shoot, your vehicle is treated as not having a weapon. You’ll have to move onto the next objective if you want to shoot again.

If you advance onto an objective and don’t roll an Assault weapon, you can’t shoot it (this is to keep the reins pulled back on min/maxing players out there).

You win by being the last man standing OR being the first to cross the finish line a certain amount of times.

This is designed to be a fun game with no points taken into consideration. You do have a little bit of tact on your side as you have to decide which vehicle you want to take out of which army. Some factions have great shooting, while others don’t. However, some factions also have super fast vehicles while others have really tanky ones. It depends on what you feel like playing! This is a great way to include all your friends if you’re bored one day at your LGS. The rules are simple and we hope you test it out and have fun with it!

Will you be giving this game a try whenever you have friends over? Have you already invented something like this once before? Which vehicle would be your first pick?
