The Star Viper was an ambitious new star fighter designed by Prince Xizor himself. Come and take a look at a new build that can bring the Star Viper out of the hangar!
The Star Viper is a great ship, but can get very expensive with its initial cost and upgrades. The Black Sun Enforcer is the cheapest version, clocking in at 25 points. The most common and cheap upgrade seen on this ship is the ever popular Autothrusters.
This modification upgrade can keep your ships alive much longer after shrugging away volley after volley of enemy fire. Enemy turret squadrons also have fits dealing with Autothrusters equipped Star Vipers. With the upcoming release of the Scum epic ship, the C-ROC, we will get a new upgrade that may breathe new life to the humble Star Viper.
Pulsed Ray Shield is a Scum only modification that can make your Star Vipers into mini tanks. It fits perfectly on the Star Viper since it requires your ship to only have 1 shield. During the End phase, you may recover a shield for the cost of 1 ion token. This may seem like a big drawback, but the Star Viper is fairly maneuverable with having boost and barrel roll in its action bar. After your speed 1 ion maneuver, you can use your boost or barrel roll to get back into the fight, and all the while after recovering a shield. A nice way to pin down enemy fighters and also mitigate being ioned is to also equip Flechette Torpedoes.
This nifty torpedo upgrade will always give the defender a stress token, regardless if it did damage or not. This can be a great way to keep action heavy aces in check. If they get too liberal with their action economy and stress themselves too often, you can lock them up, and fire your Flechette Torpedoes to hopefully give them a devastating bevy of stress.
Is this the new fix for the Star Viper? We will have to wait and see once these new upgrades hit the tables.
