With the Ork codex fully revealed, we’ve spotted some potentially hidden combos that may shift the current meta for Warhammer 40k.

The Ork codex took its sweet time to get here and there’ve been mixed emotions about it. But we think there are some all-star units that will be doing most of the legwork in the green tide.

With that being said, let’s dive in!

Warbikes & Exhaust Clouds

We know that Buggies are the new hotness, but we’re thinking Warbikes are the way to go. Of course, Warbikes lack some AP so they can’t do everything. but they can most definitely chew through some infantry units and be a real headache for your opponent to deal with.

Each Warbike comes equipped with two Dakka guns (Assault 3 S5 Ap0 1D). That’s six shots hitting on a 5+ per model. Keep in mind, you can take these Bikes in units of nine. They’re also cheap! 80(ish) points for three. So how do we make this unit a real issue?

ork stratagem

Take a unit of nine Warbikes and spend a single CP to make everyone -1 to hit. Race them up the board and capture objectives/maim light-armored targets as you see fit.

You can even have a Warboss on the Defkilla Wartrike roll with them so they can charge even after advancing. Like we said before, don’t expect this unit to chew through a Knight anytime soon, but they should definitely be able to shred infantry and even topple some medium armored things under the weight of attacks. (A nob with a power klaw helps too).

Meganobz in a Battlewagon

This is where things get a bit expensive points-wise. Rest assured, you’ll be able to chew just about anything that isn’t a Knight.

Have you thought about loading a Battlewagon with ten Meganobz? This is a literal Power Klaw pain-train. If you can manage to close the gap on a unit with a fully-loaded Battlewagon, you’ll be able to spend one CP and get ten Power Klaw attacks. That’s brutal if you manage to hug up next to an Imperial Guard Tank column.

Keep in mind that when the Battlewagon gets destroyed (because it will) you still have possibly ten Meganobz with three power Klaw attacks a piece popping out.

The only issue is actually squeezing your Battlewagon between all the screens…That’s where Boyz come in. More specifically, Goffs.

Beefed-Up Ork Boy Squads

Goff Ork

Slugga Choppa Boyz from any clan can get work done. But the Goff Boyz are corn-fed. When you take their clan kultur and combine it with a mobbed-up squad (forty Boyz) of Skarboyz, you can make screens weak at the knees.

To add even more value into the bunch, you can bring a Banner with you and let those boys hit on a 2+ while getting extra attacks for every 6+ in melee.

BUT WAIT. THERE’S MORE

If for some reason you find yourself in a turn where you didn’t kill whatever your Boyz touched, you can always fight again.

  • Get Stuck in Lads(3cp): Select a friendly Ork unit, they may pile in and fight for a second and final time.

We need to talk about this for a minute. Space Marines have a “fight twice” stratagem that costs 3Cp as well. However, most of the time, Space Marine units will have anywhere between 5-10 models. That averages out to be around 6-15 attacks assuming nobody in the unit died.

But for the exact same cost, Orks get to fight twice. Being real here, you’ll probably have only about twenty Orks within swingin’ range, but they can get four attacks a piece… you can put two and two together and realize how silly this is.

We haven’t seen the Orks play on the tabletop since their codex dropped, so it may be a while before we can for sure say that these are as effective as we think they are. But, we are definitely in some exciting times for list-brewing once again.

Do you already have an Ork list ready to go? What do you think about these combos? Let us know in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
