Are Wraithknights Back Now? Craftworlds Rule Preview

eldar dow 3 hor wal wraithknightGames Workshop has released the first preview for Codex: Craftworlds, and it looks like the Iyanden Psykers have a new trick up their sleeves.

Games Workshop revealed this week’s pre-orders, and they put a nice little rules preview from Codex: Craftworlds. Let’s take a look at the new rule and see what they had to say about it.

Codex Eldar Craftwords

Older hobbyists among you may remember Craftworld Eldar, which contained rules for Ulthwé, Iyanden, Biel-Tan, Altaioc and Saim-Hann. Codex: Craftworlds is the spiritual successor to that book as well as a step forward for the army in line with the other codexes we’ve released so far, featuring five new Craftworld Attributes designed to represent the unique ways these Aeldari go to war. The abilities are powerful, thematic, and flexible, and open up new tactical possibilities for army-building.

These Craftworld Attributes are paired with a range of Stratagems, Warlord Traits, no less than two vastly expanded psychic disciplines and powerful Remnants of Glory. Just check out the Psytronome of Iyanden:

Eldar Psytronome of Iyanden

Iyanden Psykers are now going to have access to the Psytronome of Iyanden. This is going to double the Attacks characteristics of all friendly Iyanden Wraith Construct units within 6″ of the model that activated it for the rest of that Fight phase. This can only be activated once during the battle, lasts the rest of that Fight phase, and at the end of the Fight phase every Iyanden Wraith Construct that was affected by it suffers D3 mortal wounds. That’s a big risk, especially if you have low Wound models, like the Wraithblades, within that 6″ bubble. Larger models, i.e. the Wraithknight or Wraithlord, would be able to take full advantage of this artifact, and still survive to keep fighting.

Keep your Iyanden Psyker close to your Wraithknight and unload 8 Attacks with you titanic wraithbone fists that are Strength 8, AP -3, and do D6 Damage, then watch your opponent crumble. Or, you can take advantage of the Ability on the titanic feet that states you roll 3 dice instead of 1 when you make an attack with this weapon. With an Attack characteristic of 8 that’s giving you 24 dice that are Strength 8, AP -2, and do D3 Damage each. Ouch…

What do you think about the latest rules preview? Does it have you excited to play your Eldar? Or, does it make you a little worried to play against them? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
