Staying or Going? Drama Arises With Horus Heresy Rulebooks

horus heresy wallpaperAre they staying or are they going? Games Workshop said the Horus Heresy rules wouldn’t change for a while. What do you make from all of this?

It wasn’t long ago when Games Workshop said it would take some time before the rules would change for The Horus Heresy. But let’s take a look at some of the book descriptions between Black Library and Forge World that a lot  of keen eyed hobbyists noticed this evening.

Do they tell a different story about the fate of this premium book series that many have collected for years.

UPDATE: GW has reverted back the descriptions of the digital product to match the physical ones. You can see the new reverted texts by clicking on the product header links below:

Warhammer 40,000 is being updated soon and we’ll be releasing updated rules for playing games set during The Horus Heresy shortly after. Though the rules in this title won’t be compatible with the updated version of Warhammer 40,000 or the upcoming Horus Heresy rules, all of the great hobby content and background narrative will be as valid as ever.

Of course, until the new Horus Heresy rules are released, you can continue to use the existing Warhammer 40,000 rules for games set in the Horus Heresy.

And this is what the description is for the same book, but over on Forge World:

Games Workshop literally posted on Warhammer Community after the announcement of 8th titled “The New Edition of Warhammer 40,000 – Your questions answered” and said this:

**A few of you might be wondering how the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 affects Forge World’s Horus Heresy rules and army lists. Well, for the moment, it won’t! You can carry on using the existing Warhammer 40,000 ruleset for your Horus Heresy games.

Did Black Library get the update and Forge World somehow didn’t get the memo? They’re not changing The Horus Heresy, they are changing The Horus Heresy…??? So what exactly is going on here?

We can see where some of the dedicated Horus Heresy hobbyists out there are starting to squirm, especially after reading all the comments on social media this evening.

Let’s be honest here, some people have spent well over $1,000 on the black books plus the two editions of red books that have been printed thus far, and now their is some indication that these books may not be usable anymore just like the 7th Edition codex books?

For those of you out there that might be thinking “just play the version of 30k you want, adjust with the change”, it’s really not that simple. There are still Legions that have not even been fully released yet rules wise and will not therefore may not even be playable with older versions.

What is everyone else’s thoughts on this? We really want to hear what the community has to say about all this. Speak up, now’s your time!
