Will 2017 Be The Year of Change for Warhammer 40k?

2016 was the Year of Khorne. I played Khorne-based armies of various forms throughout the year, and had a lot of fun doing so. Come see what changed!

However, it is now 2017, the Year of Change! Magnus and his cohorts have ushered in a new era and I will be dedicating this year to all things Thousand Sons. I plan to play Thousand Sons as often as possible this year and really see what they can do. The Thousand Sons are a unique army that is very different from the Khorne Daemonkin lists I often played in 2016. Why, you may ask, am I drawn to them?Magnus

  • Psykers Supreme:  7th edition changed the way that psychic powers are used and I love the current system. Thousand Sons can easily make an army that has enough psychic dice to dominate the phase and unleash havoc upon their enemies. Thousand Sons also have access to 11 psychic disciplines, which gives them the most flexible psykers in all of 40k! After playing without any psychic dice for so long, I really want to change things up and play the best psykers in the galaxy!
  • The Fluff: Ever since I read the Horus Heresy novel A Thousand Sons I have been in love with this legion of psykers. Playing them on the table top is super fun for me, and win or lose I love seeing the Thousand Sons in action.
  • Magnus: The arrival of Magnus the Red into the 40k universe is a dream come true for me. I have wanted rules for this guy for years and now that we have them I am so excited that it is hard to think straight! Magnus is so cool that he just demands to be played, and I plan to play him all year long!
  • Tactics: When I look at Thousand Sons, I see an army with endless tactical opportunities that are all distinctly different than KDK. I am excited to push myself to the limit discovering cool combos and tricks that really make these guys do things no one saw coming!
  • Fun: At the end of the day, I play armies because I think they are fun. KDK was super fun. I had more fun playing KDK in 2016 than I have playing any other army in previous years. I think Thousand Sons will be just as fun as KDK, if not more. When fun is the goal and the motivation behind an army then there is no way to lose a game.

I have had a chance to play a few games with Thousand Sons so far and have loved every roll! Luckily I will have an opportunity to play with the sorcerous boys in blue at the Scarab GT in Columbia, SC on January 14th-15th. I plan to take the following list:

Rehati War Sect:
Magnus
Daemon Prince, Mark of Tzeench, Level 3, Wings, Armor, Spell Familiar

Daemon Prince, Mark of Tzeench, Level 3, Wings, Armor, Spell Familiar
Daemon Prince, Mark of Tzeench, Level 3, Wings, Armor, Spell Familiar, Staff of Arcane Compulsion

Chaos Daemons CAD:

Herald of Tzeench, level 1, Paradox
12 Blue Horrors
12 Blue Horrors

Aegis Line, Comms Relay

(Editors Note: Horton Won this event with this list)

There army many other Thousand Sons lists that I want to try, but this lets me use Magnus and utilizes models that I already have! Win or lose I am excited to play 5 games with Magnus and his amazing friends. Let the Year of Change begin!
