40k-homebrew-army-listsThree more off-meta army lists emerged in these 9th Edition 40k tournaments over the weekend- take a look at these homebrew lists!

9th Edition’s meta is still settling, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out these awesome homebrew lists that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. They didn’t do too bad and this just goes to show that it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Seasons Beatings Tournament: T’au Empire– Logan Nuessen

farsight tau

seasons tau 1First up we got a nice little surprise with a Tau list that actually did fairly well! Tau just hasn’t been in the limelight too much this edition yet. Logan chose to go a single Farsight battalion led by a Cadre Fireblade and a Coldstar Commander. The Coldstar Commander is great on his own, while the Fireblade is a good option for supporting Tau Troops.

seasons tau 2For troops, they went with two squads of the longer-range Strike teams and a single squad of the close-range Breacher team. Meaning he can play a typical ranged style that Tau is known for while also being able to have the option to push up and take an objective or two.

Elites bring two famous units from the last edition. The Firesight Marksman doesn’t do damage, however, for 30 pts it is an extremely reliable source of markerlights, which in essence buff the whole list when active. The Riptide, similarly to the Coldstar, is a selfish hard hitter. It won’t “support” the list, but it will certainly rack up a kill count if kept alive, which is a mandatory aspect in nearly every list. You gotta be able to kill stuff!

seasons tau 3Two 5 man Squads of Burst cannon Stealth suits will give the list a good amount of chaff clearing with the pure volume of shots, that way the heavy hitters can focus on the bigger problems. There is also a single squad of Crisis Suits with Ion blasters, which have high strength and allow them to advance and shoot.

seasons tau 4Fast Attacks bring a total of 8 extra Gun Drones, for bodies to soak wounds and also a tad bit of extra shots. The R’varna saw a nerf this edition, however, it’s still very playable, and Logan is trying to prove that (with good results too). With very long ranges and good abilities, may be a solid choice.

Lastly for Heavy Supports there is a lone squad of Sniper Drones, which can snipe or soak wounds in a pinch. The marksman can also adds one to their hit rolls on top of his normal value, meaning they get a little bit better.

Seasons Beatings Tournament: Adepta Sororitas– Bambam Hunter

sister wal hor Adepta Sororitas sisters of battle

seasons sisters 1This Sisters of Battle list has two Detachments, with the first being a Spearhead. It is led by a single Canoness, who can give rerolls to units near it. The two Troops are stock Battle Sister squads for some cheap bodies to help contest objectives and maybe even protect some more valuable units.

seasons sisters 2An interesting turn in the list comes in the Heavy Support slot. This player decided to go with triple Exorcist tanks, which hasn’t been as popular as before with Sisters players. It has a lot of variability, so it can either come in the clutch or do very poorly, depending on how you roll for shots and then damage. A single squad of Mortifiers and two squads of Penitent Engines bring some armour melee units, which can deal damage and survive the swing back if they don’t take too much damage in the shooting phase before they charge.

seasons sisters 3Finishing off the first detachment, there are two Immolators serving as basic transports for two squads of Battle Sisters all of which get the benefits of reduced AP, and a Feel No Pain save from their order conviction.

The second detachment is a patrol, bringing another Canoness. This is important because the detachments are different Orders, meaning the Canoness’ can only give rerolls to units in their respective detachments. Plus this Order gets bonus AP to their weapons, so they are set to bring the pain.

seasons sisters 4A single Battle Sister squads give a tad more cheap bodies to contest objective while the rest of the gears are turning in the list. The final units in the list are two 9 model Repentia units bringing even more melee power on top of the armored options before.

It looks like the melee threats are there to distract the opponent while the triple Exocists may try to focus fire key units, a great Hammer, and anvil of doom.

Seasons Beatings Tournament: Necrons– Nathan Bates

Necron Wal Hor

seasons necron 1This Necron list is special for two reasons, the first of which is no Silent King! Instead, this list is very Elite, going for punching power instead of bodies and board control. Starting off with a Lokhust Lord and a Skorpekh Lord, who are both great solo units no even considering their auras (although letting friendly units reroll wounds is still a great bonus!).

seasons necron 2There is a single Elite in this detachment, 6 Skorpekh Destroyers. These are great in melee, but only in melee, so if you can take advantage of that, they’ll be great. Similarly, the Fast Attack slot brings a single squad of 6 Ophydian Destroyers, which are also melee-centric but are much more mobile.

seasons necron 3The second reason this list is special is Double Doom Scythes! Aerial Superiority can be extremely helpful, especially since too many people seem to be playing dedicated flyers, meaning the air space has a decent chance to be uncontested.

The final unit is a Catacomb Command Barge, which is a pain to deal with and offers some nice buffs to your other units that you really need to bring the pain.

Overall each of these lists offers a little bit of a different approach by we like them because of their all-in on an aspect of their faction in a response to the meta. Even better they are getting decent results from the players.
